Ford is taking great pains to stay out of their way as much as possible. That includes exterior design/suspension and interior design. Areas like production efficiency are being utilized. Parts sharing is being used but only in mundane areas. But some engines are shared. I think Jag uses one of Ford's supercharged V8s in one of their high end sedans. Notthing wrong with that.

This is VERY different than what GM did to the Hummer.

BTW, dealers will try to f**k you on the trade in so they can make more money on it when they sell it on the lot or to another dealer.

A few years ago, I was driving down the road here in Phoenix and I saw what I thought was a taurus being tested. Quite often we see cars with the leather padded covers all over them test driving in the heat of the summer and in the warmth of the winter out here. As I came up next to it, I realized it was a right hand drive car, and I thought "WTF is Ford making right hand drive Taurus's for?" Come to find out, it was an S-Type Jag.

I think the GM Humburban sucks! The original Hummer is the most bad a$$ truck out there, and this rip off is terrible.

Dealers will screw you hard and come back for more if you let them. Don't do a dealer sale unless you absolutely have to. Private you can get more money for sure.

Also, maximas do have ferociously bad resale. That's why I bought my max used. I let some other sucker drive it for a couple of years and knock 10k off the price Unless nissan gets better resale I'd be hard pressed to buy one new, which is partly why I couldn't consider a 350z because that resale is brutal, and if you buy a 350z used you can almost be assured it's been driven hard.

If you want resale buy a honda. You can buy a new accord for $19k and 2 years later with 40k miles on it sell it for $18,900 Of course who wants a honda.

Why are you trading your Max for? I wouldn't get a Jaguar because there are reliblitiy issue. Keep in mind it's operated by Ford Motor. So you know what they say about FORDS......CRAP ENGINE.....RECALLS....POOR FIT AND FINISH.

Holy Moly man. After that long discussion of Ford/Jaguar, you come up with this?

RIVERA does look like a Pimp car. Probably the Pimp had to retired since all of his HO'S had a yard sale on his front lawn.

I agree that they would be gone if it wasn't for Ford, I just hate to see them go from a car that was so different, to another Ford sedan. The S type looks like crap, the X type still has it's front end, but that is about it, and the XJ still looks awesome. I just hate to see them cut the corners.

The $15,500 is typical for a trade in. Dealers will only offer wholesale or less. They will turn the car on their own lot and get more than what a consumer would sell it for OR they'll take to auction and sell it for wholesale. Trust me, they won't lose money on it, and it's worth more to a buyer than to a dealer.

I don't think I would get much more for my 2k3 SE 6 speed Max..

maybe $18,000 if I was lucky...

He was giving you a pretty good dollar for that Max...

i'm not saying other cars don't have a better resale value, but for a 2k1 maxima, that is a darn good price

I would have thought $13,000. I guess he had some room to play in the price of his XK8, and wanted you to think he was giving you more than most dealers would....

I guarantee if you take it to 5 other dealers, most will be lower...

For the right amount of money you can get what ever you want done. I was being facetious but if you really want to get it done I might be able to work it out if you've got the coin, I've got the contacts to get the wood. I know of a laser cutting shop.

I would need all of the pieces you want done for 3D imaging so the dimensions can be entered into cad for the cutter.

No. Jags do not use Ford's V8s at all. However, the Lincoln LS and the Ford Thunderbird use the Jag's 3.9L V8 from the Jaguar S Type.

really?

Jag always built I6's and V12's before Ford came along...

The 3.9 V8 built by Ford may have first been used in a Jag, and later put in the LS and Thunderturd...but I assure you Jag would not build a V8 on its own accord...

(disclaimer....I am not 100% sure, but this is what I always thought was the case...can someone in the know set us straight?)

Dealers will always rip you on trade ins...They're in business for a reason, to make the money you earn... You will either get ripped on the trade in, or on the new car..

Do What Im doing, sell it private party.. You'll probably get another 1-2k..

I think $15,500 is actually great for a trade in on a 2K1.

Its not only the Max this is happening to most cars, the low trade in values, the market is saturated right now. Interest rates are so low that people are trading in their cars for brand new and the used car market is just saturated and the dealers have the upper hand right now! I am glad I dont have to worry about resale as I keep my cars long enough, I dont trade 1 and 2 and 3 year old cars that I purchased new.

$15.5K doesn't sound that bad (then again, I don't know how well equipped yours is). My 2K2 Max GXE w/14900 miles has trade in value according to of KBB $15825 and $15086 according to Edmunds. UGH!!! Lucky I didn't bother trading in...

BTW, Jags have pretty poor reliability. If you don't believe Consumer Reports, take a look at some long term review findings in your favorite car mags. Some of the probs are pretty hilarious.

buying a NEW Nissan, or any car for that matter is not going to be very good for the wallet. 15,500$ is the auction price of a 2k2 max with under 20k miles.. so i think even that is a decent trade in. Sorry to say

I think the problem here is that you have 31K in an AE. I think the AE was aimed at Ethusiasts that would keep the car longer than most.

I got my 2k GLE in 6/99 for 26K. I just unloaded it for 15.5K (with 42K miles) on the G35C. I really cant complain. However, if I had dropped over 30K on the max, that would have been thrown away at trade in. You will really have to private sale your car to someone who wants an AE. Dealers just dont care that its an AE.

This doesn't seem as bad as you say. If the dealer, who has to make money on the car, is offering $15,500.00 that means you can probably sell yourself for $17,000+.

Also, is 50% depreciation really correct. My AE stickered for $30,600.00 but I only paid $27,000.00 , did you have to pay full sticker at purchase.

Either way, best of luck to you, in actuallity new cars are the worst investments ever....but I still like a new car every so often.
