C230 Kompressor vs Maxima Comparison

An old Marine buddy of mine drove up to KC to see me this weekend...

He drives a 1999 C230 Kompressor...

I was not impressed.

the steering felt pretty good.

but the engine was not at all smooth, and it has plenty of rattles in the interior. I think he has like 70,000 miles on it. (of course its alot smaller than a Maxima....but thats beside the point)

the auto door locks did not work. The controls were not easy to get used to. I wasn't impressed.

when I started up the engine, it sounded like crap, maybe he doesn't take good care of it.

anyone else have any thoughts on these?

The C230 Kompressor sedans are not that great performance-wise. Fit and finish is typical Benz, which is quite good. I almost bought one before I got my Max, but lack of back seat room was my major issue. The engine is buzzy, but the car handles well. Not their best product. Now if I can just scrape up 80 grand for that E55.....

Really depends on which volvo, my friend has a 5spd s70 T5 and it would totally demolish me in any situation. I'm not a big fan of the c230, besides.. I probably wouldn't even be able to fit into the drivers seat.

The "C" class means cheap to me. I think those cars are stoves. As far as Volvo goes I like those S60Rs and S70Rs.

What's an S70R? I had a 850 Turbo when they first came out, but it was the first year and I had a lot of problems with it, but the car was fast and comfortable... I know of S70 T5s, but never heard of a R.

My Mom drives an SLK 230K (same motor) and we raced at the light and got her by 3 car lengths to the next light. My roommate drives a SLK 320 (215hp V6) with manumatic trans. Not a bad car but still slower than the Max...

I have pretty good experience with the SLK230. My brother and I combined our resources for a RENNTech version. It's fast, needless to say. Bored/stroked, new S/C unit, 15 PSi boost, new tranny, new rear end (LSD unit), and it looks like the AMG (sport package).

Mmm....RENNTech Boy, do they know how to do a car.....

One of my favorite high-end dream cars is a '98 SLR 7.4 which is the SL600 with the V-12 bored out to 7.4 liters...can't remember the exact figures but it was like insane......cost like $200k including the donor SL.....

I'd be quite content with a "cheap"32 AMG or "cheap"320 4-MATIC

my buddy just got a 2k3 C230 Kompressor- and I must say that its alot of car for $30K
Zero road noise, Excellent fit/finish/ "17 rims/lo-pro's
leather/ May not be that fast but it feels fast and
has an excellent Auto tranny (tap sideways shifts)
and better yet the three pointed star- may have to get one for the wifey!

maximadave, you raced your mom?

as for benzez, if it isn't the S class, it isn't worth it
Well, actually, why go lower than E class? I think MB should be ashamed to make those cars.
