ECU code question?
I am on my way out the door. I wanted to check on how to check of ECU codes for my sister's 2000 Maxima SE. I own a 4th gen and do not know if it is the same procedure as my car. I looked in the faqs but only found two references dealing with the ECU, one for resetting, and one for clearing codes. Since I am in a hurry I may have missed the one on how to check the codes and what they mean. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Her car started making a whinning type sound when she comes to a stop. This started a few days ago, and last night her Maxima threw a CEL. She has an auto with no mods. I will drive her car later today to see if I can offer a better description of the problem.
Thanks,
Juan

Well I heard the noise this evening and it sounds kind of like a beep. Some kind of semi rough beep...beep...beep sound. I also heard some tsss type sound and I think the AICV (I think-some clattering sound) when she turned off the car. All these sounds happended when she turned the car off. The bird type (beep) sound sometimes occurs when she turns the car on or comes to a stop. She went to a couple of different Autozones and they said that they did not check ECU codes anymore, one of them said something about the state of California not allowing them to do it anymore
. She went to Pepboys and they wanted $85 dollars to just check the codes, and $72 for something else. She has 52k on her car. Well she will take it to the dealer on Tuesday or Wednesday, she bought the extended warranty on it. She just wanted to find out what it could be before she took it in to the dealer. I have a 4th gen and my car does not make these sounds, except maybe for the AICV sounds. I do not know if the tsss type sound is normal for the variable intake manifold you guys have.
