5 yr/60k about to run out - should I do anything?

I have 57.5k on the odo. Is it possible at this stage to go to nissan for an extended power train warranty (not interested in third party warrantors)?

Is there anything I should consider getting done now? The car seems to be fine, or just let this thing run out? *shrug*

I recently bought a 2000 GLE, with 14,xxx miles. The original factory warranty expired in August. The dealership recommended First Extended Service Corporation . They set me up with their "High Tech" warranty good until 75,000/Aug 26, 2009 for roughly $1055. Even though I haven't had any problems with the car, EVERYTHING on the car is covered with the exception of normally worn parts like brake pads and such. Also there is only a $50 deductable for all repair work, so I think it was a good deal. You should inquire about it, I think it is a great deal.
Oh btw this was a Nissan Dealership, not to say that they made a big profit off of this, but they did recommend this service over Nissan's.

That does sound good. I heard a horror story about a guy who ended up finding that his $1k+ repair would be cheaper to pay with cash than use his warranty service, because they required a bunch of diagnostic crap he had to pay for, deductibles, and would only cover $30/ hour or something ridiculous for labor!

They did offer the warranty when I first purchased the car, but I declined because I didnt want to finance it. I only had $1k to put down, so getting that warranty in Feb, when it was still good until Aug, was a waste to me. So I saved it up, went back on Aug 1 and bought it. I have also had experience with crappy aftermarket warranties as well. I purchased one on a used Mazda 626 a long time ago, and it really sucked. First of all, I had to pay all expenses up front MYSELF, then put in a claim form or whatever to get MY money back. And I could only get it back if THEY felt it was under their warranty, what a bunch of CRAP Anyway, I think I got a good deal and I hope this thread helps anyone out that needs one. Oh btw, I do have paperwork that explains clearly what is covered, and like I said before it covers practically EVERYTHING. Anything you can think of including cv joints/axles, ac, window regulators, power seats, sunroof, you name it. Not to mention, the warranty includes, at no extra charge, 24 hour roadside assistance. Even though I already have AAA, it is always refreshing to know I can count on my warranty company to be there as well.

I wonder what kind of problems one would have with a modified car. For example, CV joints go bad and the car is lowered. Will this void the warranty because of after market springs. Just curious if this would be a problem with extended coverage. I'm going to have to make a decision in a few months. Anyone with experience with this type of thing? Thanks.

I have the Tein/Tokico hp setup on my car, and if the cv joints were to go bad, i would certainly swap my old springs/struts on before I take it in. Of course it is a lot of work, but it will be practically stock and they cannot deny service. On the other hand if you leave them on, they can easily deny any claims. Thats why I held on to my old suspension, rather than chuck it or sell it.

It almost always makes more sense to just bank the $$ you'd use for a warranty and hope for the best. Extended warranties are big profit items for dealerships.

Also, I've heard horror stories from people who bought extended warranties from companies other than the manufacturer. You might have to front the cash and then try to be "reimbursed", and the warranty company might make you jump through hoops for awhile to get the repair approved.

If you really want the peace of mind, just send me the $1k, and I'll take care of your future repairs.
