Possibility of 2k2 swap to better transmission?

i was wondering if it is possible to swap the 2k2 to a better manual transmission. Skylines have getrags but since it's rwd or 4wd, is it not possible to modify a transmission to work with the maxima fwd? Or is there a high quality fwd transmission? I'm confused:: I'm not sure what is involved in a tranny swap.

He wanted to know if '02-'03 Maximas was like the Skylines. With all the possibility and potentials, Skylines has with mods.

But to answer his question, no, there aren't any performance company that manufacture high performance 6 speed or 5 speed tranny for '02-'03.

You can go to tranny rebuild shops and have them rebuild your tranny stronger with better internal gears/parts/syncros.

Good luck!

LOL @ Jeff

Yeah, there is no way to modify a Gertrag style tranny to work with a FWD platform. Nor can you take the internals and expect them to fit in the tranny of the Maxima. Of course, if there was enough $$ thrown away, anything is possible.......

Sure, any RWD tranny will do fine. And the best part is that you'll only need one slick at the track. It's called OWD.
While you're at it you should consider getting a race prepped Powerglide because all the cool kids are doing it. People are putting much power through them and running some purdy quick times.

The gears themselves are plenty strong enough. The only problems with this gearbox is the sorry a$$ 3rd gear synchro and the notchy shifting.

Does the extra shift to 4th needed in the 6spd make much difference in 1/4 times?
If so would there be a fitment issue with trying to put a 3rd. gear from a 5spd in there?

Jetrags. Anywho...I have no issues with my tranny. Get a VB mod and go to town.

Last time I was at the drag strip, I ended up in higher trap speed when going to 4th. I trapped about 97mph on 4th. Once I left it on 3rd, I got about 94mph. Strangely my time was about same for both ~ 14.7, mind you, my launches were irregular.
