losing precats bothers me...
i also bought this car to make it stay classy, driviable, noise wise, and somewhat comfortable. those 2 precats are gonna pull out a lot of noise.

a ypipe on the other hand, may add more noise, but not as much, keeps all piping intact, and precats together.

that's my way of looking at it. i already ordered my ypipe. should get it next week. then prolly a larger resonator might get added, depending on the noise level.

I am interested, but the price is a major issue. I, like most people, need some good numbers to justify spending that kind of money.

if the dynos come up with similar results as to what stillen got for their car (~20 whp from their website) i'd definatly like to order the headers. No emissions in NH!!! We'll see

just my 2 cents. I'd like to get Cattmans for my o3 because his are equal length and Stillens are not. Someone correct me if i am wrong.
I am interested not only in the increased performance, but for the weight reduction, which of course is the other part of the performance equation.
I too am concerned about noise and that is why I have kept my stock muffler.
Thanks again to the forum because I am sure we will see a lot of posts as more Max heads begin to install these long awaited headers.

Right now I know what they sound like with an exhaust with no reasonator and an HKS muffler. Yes it's really, I mean REALLY fuking loud.

But with a resonator, 24" if needed, a muffler that does a little more than the HKS...

I'm planning on getting the headers but i'm not sure if i'll get the Stillen or wait for Hotshot. I wonder how they'll sound with my Greddy Evo catback?
Oh well, I kept my stock exhaust just in case.

Definitely depends on dyno gains...still, the price is pretty crazy. Hopefully someone else comes out with headers for less $$!

as possible since drive alot- the headers are a
no-no for me -
(my neighbor has a nightrider TransAm and he wakes everyone up when he starts that bytch ,they're incredibly loud at idle and below
3K rpm) Headers ok if your Max is a track car-

The headers make GREAT cat toys. My girlfriend's cat crawls all over them.

I will wait on Hotshot just for price comparison's and hp numbers. If Cattman's y-pipe is proven to add at least 10hp, then I will get that over the headers.

I will order them:

1) when the price drops
2) when dyno gains can be substantiated
3) when my warranty dies

I will have dyno information available on Friday evening/Saturday morning. The car is currently undergoing surgery to have the headers installed. Once the surgery has been completed, I will tune the car on the dyno at the first available opening.

You'll need to remember that my car is heavily modded (when compared to stock), so we'll see how the gains are when you already have a full cat-back, intake, engine management, UDP, timing advance, etc.

Will: Add another item to the selections that says "I've already ordered the headers"

Those of you waiting on HotShot headers, it could be a long while until those are released. The price of the Stillen headers is going to be set for a while and probably won't go down for at least 8-10 months.

That could be perfect timing for me. With debt reduction and finishing some things around the house that is right in my time frame. After finishing my basement, putting in a home theater, painting the house not to mention what I spent on the car I'm short. And I still have to finish the bar in the basement, extend my deck and save some cash to put a 220 gallon in the wall salt water fish tank. So around late spring early summer '04 there will be more options out there with results known. I already can't wait

Studman,

When looking at the Cattman Y compared to the stock Y (Polo's pics) you can see where hp gains come from. Now that you have seen both stock header and Stillen header, can you see major differences in the two? I mean, where do gains generate? Is it primarily because pre cat removal. Are the Stillens port matched to promote better air flow. Thanks in advance.

Darth Vader: Compared to a WSP Y pipe, the headers lost power. Cattman's Y pipe hasn't been dyno'd yet, so we don't have those results to compare. Stock vs. headers comparison will be happening in about 2 weeks. I've setup another Maxima owner to do the install at the same shop and same dyno that mine was done at, to remove all possibilities of variations. So for now, sit tight and wait for the results to come out.

If the results are negative, I may end up selling mine. Heck, I may sell them anyway, because my WSP Y pipe made more power (for me) than the headers/Y pipe did.
