2003 Maxima Poor Turing Radius

Has anyone noticed that the turing radius on this car really blows! Suprisingly the 2003 G35 doesnt have the same problem nor does the 2004 maxima. I was wondering if this is a problem that pretains to all 5th Gen Maximas or just mine.

With as wide as a footprint (believe 225's) as 6th gens have, its hard to believe they wouldn't suffer the same problem.

You're right though, 5th gens have this inherent problem. Kinda embaressing making a 3pt turn when a u-turn should really suffice...

All in all, I will keep the Maxima just the same.

No, what you're experiencing is normal. Nissan lists the turning diameter for the Max Se & GLE at 40.0'. The turning diameter for the GXE is smaller at 35.4'. I imagine its due to the 17" rims since both the SE and GLE come standard with 17x7s.

i thought it was due to the hlsd???

thats the one thing i hate most about my car. the 2001's and 2000, has a 35 ft turning circle. the 2k2 and 2k3 seems to have the bigger circle.

Bigger wheel/tire combo and making sure they (Nissan) doesn't have any scrubbing issues is why our cars turn like battlecruisers...

I agree, the turning radius on my mom's 2k3 GLE is terrible. When I pull out from the parking garage, half the time, I need to reverse a tiny bit to avoid one bad a$$ cement pillar.

I never need to do this on my Mazda 626 or Buick Roadmaster wagon.

Oh well... Kinda dissapointed, however, the nice ride and power more than compensates this issue. Finally let the tires loose a few days ago and tires hopped up to 30km/h (it wasn't even WOT). :-)

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there a mod to remove the turn stops which will allow for a shorter turning radius?

The turning radius is a dissappiontment especially with the 6 speed. However the car more than makes up for that inconvience in many other ways.

Yes the 04 does have this problem it has the same 40+ turning radius as the 00-03 with the 17 inchers, their have been many threads on the topic in the 6th gen forum as well as in the 5th.

I hear you CCx...Its embarassing when you have to hit reverse, when big old trucks make it fine. Try U turns...
