2002 Automatic transmission replacement..HELP!!

Hey guys, I really need your guys help on this and I will try to keep this as short as possible. I have had a probelm with my Maxima for about lets say 6 months now, where the transmission hesisates as if it were gear hunting and you can constantly hear a whirring noise coming from the drivetrain. I have gotten NNA involved in this whole thing, but they are worthless in my opinion. Well my car has about 61000 miles (I have had it for a little over two years, since I commute from Riverside county to Orange county- for everyone familiar with SoCal) and I love the dam car, but this problem (gremlin) just wont go away. Numerous mechanics have looken at the car and all they say is the traditional "cant duplicate the problem"... I swear these are dumb a$$ mechanics! Well I took my car in to metro Nissan about 3 weeks ago, and not even the Head mechanic there could find anything wrong with it, of course he gave me the " cant duplicate" B.S. again. Tired of taking days off from work and wasted time on the line with both the dealer and NNA, I take it to my uncle who is a certified mechanic who specializes in imports (if you ask why I had never took it to him in the first place, simple...so I wouldnt get haggled with my warranty). He drove it for about 30 minutes on the surface streets and freeways, and he tells me... you have bad wheel bearings, and there is something very wrong with your tranny (at this point my blood is boiling, not at my uncle, but at the idiots from multiple dealers who have given me the runaround for months). My uncle then opens the transmission fluid pan, and removes the filter...and to my dismay there are pieces of metal in the filter. I am not talking about just one piece, but one side of the filter was almost clogged with them. Also keep in mind these are not miniscule pieces, but pieces as big as quarter inch. Uncle turns arounf and says-theres your problem. Well I know it sounded like I just pretty much vented, but I do not have the time to waste to argue with the dumb a$$es at NNA and the dealer, so does anyone know where I can get a new transmission, a replacement tranny, or aftermarket tranny that will fit my car? or does anyone know of a good place that can rebuild my tranny or do you guys think it is not worth it to replace it? I would really like to know your guys opinions, because at this point I am also considering buying a G35 6 speed sedan or coupe.

I'm suprised your uncle can't help you.

Don't know much about transmissions but I do know Jeff at Maximumtuning.net does great work. He's across the country from you, so I don't know how useful he'll be.

Not to be @ss here, but seeing how poorly Nissan has treated you, why would you consider buying another one? Granted, perhaps Infinity service is better, nonetheless you're essentially willing to give your money to the company that has turned its back on you. I like my car, and my experiences at the dealership have for the most part been positive, but had I encountered something like this, I'd make sure that Nissan doesn't get a dime from me from that point forward. I'd get the car fixed somewhere else and either drive it into the ground or trade it in for something else.

just my 02 cents

Actually I am in Moreno Valley on the northside of town. I went to Metro Nissan where I bought it, then to Douglas Nissan here in Orange, and Garden Grove Nissan all to get a second opinion.

You have a good point there....I guess I'll try either BMW or Lexus if I decide not to fix the car.

Screw replacing your own tranny. Call Nissan NA and raise hell. Then take the car and the shavings found to the local Nissan dealership and get it repaired. Heck, I'd have your uncle give you a bill and make Nissan reimburse you.
