How many with 5spds are popping their adjustable armrests up every once and a while while shifting??? My elbow hits the thing at least once or twice a day.

Any suggestions on how to make that thing a little tougher to bump open??

I use it regularly, love it, and have never had any problems with it popping up unexpectedly. Don't know what I'm not doing, but mine works great! srm

i have an auto....

and i'm 5'ft 3"in, i know, i'm a midget. but i really like that idea, cause my right arm doesn't feel right when the armrest is down. i think that nissan didn't think this over too well for the 5-speeds, cause i think i saw a thread a while ago, and a lot M/T drivers were complaining about this. i guess you have to live with it, or find a clever way to get around it.

Oh man, I've only had my car two days and I've already popped the armrest up about 8 times. I have a manual transmission too. It's really starting to get on my nerves. Serious design flaw there. Any solution to this problem is appreciated.

you guys could get the non adjustable one designed for the base gxe, or trade with a base gxe owner that wants the pop-up design.

Wacky thought...the thing pops up automatically, right? That means there has got to be a spring in there somewhere. If we removed the spring...the armrest would still function, however it would require being lifted up instead of popping up. This should retain the functionality while preventing the accidental popups that manual drivers 6' tall range (assuming similar arm length) will continue to run into.

First person to find the spring wins the prize.

How about the little space under the armrest, but above the deep storage area, Does anyone use that?? I use it to keep the little tickets you get to pay at airport or municipal parking lots.

I keep my wallet and mobile in there while I'm driving. I hate having my wallet BULGING out of my back pocket while I drive. Plus, I have my phone charger plugged in the back of the console and running into that little space to plug my phone in when it needs charging. I suppose this only works if you have either a small phone or a small wallet...in my case...I have a small phone.

only use it when I have a tall drink in the cup holder. Then I can rest my hand on the shifter (auto) without rubbing against the cup.

wow.. we really need something else to talk about. hehe

I have an automatic and have never had it go up accidentally. Must be a 5-speed thing, shifting into 2nd and
4th. Try fabricating a cover for over the release button.
Could be done, but doing it without looking tacky is the
trick.

I also used to have this problem when shifting, especially from 3rd to 4th. But after I removed the stock shifter and put in the SMC short throw shifter, I had no more problems hitting the armrest button. Its due to the shorten height where my arm now rest on the armrest in level with the STS. Unlike before, I had angle my arm upward and my elbow would hit that button when driving.

I'm short and it works perfectly - in the raised position it lets me rest my arm comfortably between shifts.

You can always try to lose a few inches - bigger isn't always better...

Picked up my SE a week and a half ago. I'm not tall, so first I tried keeping the console in the up position, but I kept ramming it w/my elbow. So I moved it down, but it kept popping up. Solution: I changed the way I move my arm when I shift from 1-2 and 3-4. My elbow stays relatively high. It works, but slows your shifts dramatically.
