What the differences between the 3.0 and 3.5 engines

Looking at the two engines I notice intake manifold and that the bore is different, What else is different? Reason I am asking is if you look at Cattman's 3.0 headers and stealin's 3.5 headers isn't the manifold's the same.

If you look at a stock airbox from a 2000 and a 2k2 aren't they the same?
The point I am trying to make is when SSR-Engineering finishes the turbo for the 3.5 wouldn't it bolt right up to the 2000-01 with just some different intake piping. has anybody even tried to put the stealin SC on a 2k2-2k3. From the way I see it is all it would take is maybe some different piping.

I believe 3.0 redline is also 6800. However, the 3.5 is tuned to lose hp as it nears redline. The 3.0 does not have this limitation. Of coarse, this doesn't make up all of the torque/hp difference, but the 3.0 is still a VERY good engine.

I believe the reason the Stillin SC won't fit the 2k2+ Max's is that the VTC units protrude form the block making it difficult to mount the SC. Size may be another contributing issue. I know some of the hardcore enthusiasts here have already looked into it and if they haven't done it, then it must not be possible.

ha no one has said a word about the topic. his main question is would the 3.0liter headers fit the 3.5l . i know a few peeps have thought about this idea being possible but never went as far as gettin part numbers and measurements. let us know what u find.

will

yeah, no one really answered his question...this wasn't a newbie question...he's talking about if physicaly they're so close in size, dimension, and design layout, then why arne't parts interchangeable, and they dont' even have to be exact, but close enough for a good knockoff.
i think the's smart enough to know that it's .5l larger, 33hp more, and offers a 6speed.
what's next, it doesn't come with the titanium edition like the 2k3's?!?!?!

Ok for one MannyNJ2K2Max you didn't answer my ? cause you wrote everything behind the cat is different which it's not or the greddy EVO wouldn't fit your 2k2 and only my 2000. How about somebody take a pic with the engine cover off so I can see the intake manifold. Looking at the headers you will notice if you take stillens header and lower the point where the pipes collect they would look more like the cattman headers which on the cattman headers makes it look smaller cause they collect at a lower point. Also on the cattman header look at where the header bolts to the flex section remove that part and move the flex section up and it would look like the stillen header. if the Header ports on the engine where different it would be a VQ anymore. the only thing different is the top half of the motor and bore. I bet you I could get the top half of the 3.5 and bore my 3.0 to except the 3.5 pistons and have a 3.5. Care to prove me wrong. For all you newbies coming in here and telling me it won't fit tell me this is my glove box different from yours.

Let me ask you, are you trying to find a way to boost your vq30, or the vq35? Or are you trying to increase the displacement in your 3.0 then boost?
Just a bit confused

maybe it's just an open discussion. someting to throw out in the air. maybe sometime might attempt a parts swap and it works, then something goes the extra step and attempts other part swaps.

Ok this is too stupid to even argue- behind the cat(headers/y) for the 3.0 wont
fit the exhaust manifold of the 3.5- Dont believe me? Dump a grand a prove
me wrong
Now past the cat(res/b pipe )meineke can make anything fit
Now you mention Cattman/Stillen so I tell you it wont fit- But everyone knows that $$$$$$ talks so if you got It like that ,I'm sure you can pay to have it customized - but no you cant buy a cattman headers and expect them to bolt
right on a 3.5
As far as the engine bay it comes down to money to make any SC/turbo fit- otherwize Stillen would be ranking in dough selling their 3.0 SC to 3.5 owners
for at least $4K a pop-

I'm not necessarily sure he's wrong. Yes, the engine has a larger displacement. Big deal...

If the only main mechanical differences between the 3.0 and the 3.5 are the bore/stroke and some other internal stuff, Cattman's 3.0 headers should bolt up to the 3.5 engine block (at least with the engine out of the car). The second and potentially bigger question is if there are other things in the way of the headers bolting up in the engine compartment.

I'm open to innovation- but yes to fit on the car would take some serious customization $$$$- Assuming the engines are positioned the same way/height

I would much rather wait for direct fit parts-

Better yet why not ask Brian Cattman if the VQ30/VQ35 share the same exhaust
manifold-

enjoying every minute of it....my midrange rips on the expressway.
car's gonna be outta commission this weekend since it's gettin detailed and protected for the winter. and if i do the TS ECU, it'll be outta commission for m-w next week. but the following weekend i should be pretty open, so you're more than welcome to swing by. we'll even do a few runs to see the difference

Well got my PM from DaveB the parts guy and manny is correct. They are different I just wanted to know. If I wanted to get the Cattman headers I would of gotten them. I wanted to know so I can figure out if SSR would have to make seperate turbo manifolds for the 3.0. (that's if the get a 3.0 loaner car.).

The BLOCKS are similar, NOT THE HEADS... i repeat NOT THE HEADS. For those that dont know, where does the exhaust manifold bolt up to? the engine block, bzzzt, wrong, the manifolds bolt up to the head on either side of the engine. The 3.5 has a different head design than the 3.0, logic dictates that a differently designed head would require a different exhaust manifold. Think for a second, how does the exhaust leave a cylinder, through the valves, and the valves are located, bingo, in the head.

Theres a lot of things that are different between the 3.0 and the 3.5, starting from the electronic throtle body, the upper intake manifold, the lower intake manifold, the head design, crank, pistons, rods, most likely the entire valvetrain, exhaust manifolds, and a lot more to list.

Oops, missed that one, my apologies, just getting irritated from all the posts lately about why x part from 3.5 won't work for x part on the 3.0, especially with the headers being released it seems to be being asked more vigorously. Just happened to read this post at the peak of my irritability.

ive got a 2k 3.0 and i got a friend whos got a 2k2 3.5 and we raced off the line... both autos and he was only about 1/2 sec quicker.... it seems that it doesnt matter which one you have except ive seen more for the 3.0 than the 3.5 unless you can use the 350z parts

A half a second is a huge difference in racing.
