Auto -> Manual Conversion

All,

I know a lot of you have done the Auto -> Manual Conversion and so have I.
I have a few questions though.

1. Is there any reason to do an Auto -> Manual ECU swap (besides the check engine light)?
2. If you do the ECU swap do 5th gen's require you to do a wiring harness swap?
3. Performance / Tuning benefits of this?
4. I know 4th gens had after market ECUs created was/is there anything for 5th gens?

I have heard mixed opinions about all of the above questions and I am looking to get some solid information(facts).

I just want to get the car running (N/A=no boost) at its peak performance before I looking into a boost path to go down.

Your help is appreciated.

You can do an ECU swap except you need to get all your keys reprogrammed, otherwise the car aint going to start with the 5spd ECU.

Is there any benefit to it? Not really besides no SES light on the dash. There currently nothing out there for 2k-2k1 on aftermarket ecu as of yet.

I know I had my keys reprogrammed but the ECU seemed to be bad.
I don't know what was wrong maybe just a bad ECU but when I hit 2800RPM the car would hit a wall and buck.. I would have to press the clutch to get it to stop. I needed to put the Auto ECU back and have the keys reprogrammed.
Getting to the shop was fun I had to stay in 5th under 60mph to keep it below the 2800 ceiling.

I was wondering about idle benefits. Fuel economy benefits. Any other reasons for doing the ECU swap. Also I didn't know if the reason I had this problem is because I just changed the ECU and not the entire wiring harness.

I have since removed the CEL bulb so that I don't see it and am running my auto wiring harness and auto ECU. Only thing I noticed was the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) is now "dead" in the Auto ECU. I don't know if this is because didn't change the ECU also.

Just want to know what is the best way to go. Also want to look into bigger injectors (Z injectors) but without ECU upgrade like 4th gen (95-96) I don't know how well this will work. Also with the 95-96 ECU upgrade it eliminated the OEM FMU which was a big +.
