Gab...

I just tried the GAB taking out the filter holder and letting the filter hang by a wire inside the filter housing and took off the "L" elbow beside that white box(resonator?) and below the housing...My impressions: I definitely noticed a nice growling sound but noticed only a lil gain. I guess I would have to complete the mod by have a hose extended from the bottom of the filter housing to the front of the bumper to notice some gains. However, the thing that I immediately noticed was that the rpm did go up a lil faster than before...In conclusion, I think that it did help me gain a lil power by the notice of the sound, which means the engine is breathing a lil better, and the rpm's rising faster. Also, because I did not notice the power as I had expected, I believe that the ecu must have learn first before I feel some gain. Currently I have the filter back to stock execpt the "L" elbow until I find a way to firmly secure the filter, for I do not want to cut the top part of the filter holder in case I would have to take the car to the shop(still have 42k miles on the 2K max 5spd). Any other ppl have the GAB mod and noticed some gains?

I haven't yet noticed a mileage gain, but I've only had the mod for just short of a week now...

Are we still 100% maf failure free on this mod? I need to hit the junkyard and find an extra holder. .

It's not anymore MAF failure free as having it all in a stock set-up.

Btw, purekoryo why did you take the filter out of the housing? Why not just duct tape the whole thing in there? When i did my GAB to test it out, i just took the filter cover out and duct taped the filter+holder in place.

Ghetto Air Box, it is a way to change the existing air box to allow for more air flow without having to spent $300 on an intake.

and you will get NO MAF failure when doing this...you don't even touch anything exect the cover that holds the filter in.

also, you can manually reset the ecu if you like.

consider picking up a used filter holder from a junkyard or a fellow max'er here on the board. that is what i did. i put and thread in the "for sale" section and got several replies quickly - got an extra filter holder for me to hack up for only $15.

if you hook up some piping that leads under the engine bay, for example, you should gain low end cause you're pullin in cold air. Check my web site for a few pics. Easy to do

I noticed more gains with the elbow connector on versus it off with the GAB. The most gains I did notice was when I added a pipe with a scoop. Make sure the scoop is like a funnel so that it forces more into the pipe, creating kinda like a ram air effect.

That's how intakes are for the 00-01 maximas. you defintley loose low end torque, and gain a little bit everywhere else. because of this i really think of going back to stock, especially when its hot out, the car doesnt pull for **** below 3k rpm

in the winter though, i think it pulls a lot better than stock. so i'll keep it on and then in the summer, change it back to stock.

on the 02-03 because the intake system is really restrictive, they get a lot of gain throughout the whole powerband with the intake, but they get those sh!tty MAF problems
