Racing Threads...

There have been way too many racing threads lately... This forum has generally been lax in terms of allowing racing threads and such. The other forums on this board have much stricter rules. I usually let them go as long as they remain civil and present some semblance of useful information. But starting **** with other members and personal attacks on people will not be tolerated. Once the thread goes OT in discussing cars other than the 5th gen maxima, it will be locked. If you have nothing useful to say other than "mY rYDe iZ MAd FaSt yO... i sMoKed dIs [insert car here] ... dEmZ cARz izzz mAd sLoW..." the thread will be locked/deleted. You have all been warned...

What I don't understand is why they are allowed at all given that the user agreement to register on this forum states:

"Registration to this forum is free! We do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. If you agree to the terms, please press the Agree button at the end of the page.

Although the administrators and moderators of Maxima.org Forums will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author, and neither the owners of Maxima.org Forums or Jelsoft Enterprises Limited (developers of vBulletin) will be held responsible for the content of any message.

By clicking the Agree button, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

The owners of Maxima.org Forums have the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason."

I find it doubtful any races posted here a not 'violative of any laws'.

Leaving it lax leaves it subject to abuse, so I don't see why it was tolerated in the first place.

The moderation of each forum is at the discretion of the moderator. Threads about racing are only tolerated in the case they provide some useful comparative information or are handled maturely. If the thread becomes a p!ssing contest or goes off the deep end, it will not be tolerated. If you wish to flame people or start **** with other members then do not read the thread... simple... if it becomes a big problem, or people chose to make it one, they will not be tolerated at all.

So the upshot of this whole thing is mod's blow off their own rules when they want to...actually in this case by allowing race threads AND not posting this thread in a more appropriate forum like 'Site Announcements' since this is not 5th Gen related.

Just want to make sure I have this clearly understood.

It's 5-gen related because most of the racing threads are in the 5-gen section.
Mods blowing off their own rules? What are you implying here?? Is this what happens when the mods give a little leeway?? Flames?

What you should clearly understand that each section is moderated the way that section's moderator staff chooses to. If they want to leave racing threads in there, fine. If they want to delete every single racing thread fine. If you have a problem with that, there's nothing preventing you from not visiting that section.

jjs, the user agreement is based on the actual content not breaking the law. Like helping sell or transport stolen property, copywrite infringments, using the forum to sell narcotics and so on. Not talking about racing.

exactly... there is no moderator power trip going on here... we aren't trying to change the board. All it amounts to is a little bit of leeway in posting things. It actually takes more work to wade through all the threads and decide what to do with each one rather than blindly deleting. If we choose to take a little bit of effort to make this forum a little more relaxed, I would hope that some would appreciate it. If people are offended by these types of threads, then don't read them. Any help you guys provide by reporting inappropriate posts or threads that have gone out of hand are, of course, appreciated. But if you just want to flame and attack other members of this board then please refrain from doing so as you will only be wasting server resources.

As always if this issue about racing threads gets out of hand, none of them will be tolerated.

Can I still say I dusted a Civic Hybird and that they are slow, if my spelling and grammar are correct?

I don't personally understand what the big deal is for people posting racing stories, some people are interested in that - but for thos eof you that aren't its really simple - don't click on that thread. I don't click on more than one in five threads b/c the titles don't interest me. If everyone just relaxes there is no problem.

But, UMD i think yer a good mod, no disrespect meant.

I think the bright blue for the G35 is eye-catching but it takes away any of the class that car exudes. I used to be fan, but not anymore.
Diamond Graphite looks amazing, and it shows off the wheels and brakes better.

Can I ask why there isnt just a forum for racing stories? I havent been around this board for a long time by any means, but it seems that it's sort of silly to have such a strong stance against racing stories when pretty much everyone on this board modify's their car to make it faster. I would think that maybe you could make the racing stories part of off topic, and that would promote more people to pay for the use of that forum.

Just a thought.

this has been argued before... and trust me, you don't want to go there. Basically, if we had a separate forum for that, it would be like maxima.org is condoning street racing. I think nobody would have a problem if you posted racing threads in the off topic forum... almost anything goes there.

By allowing a little felxibility in this forum, we are in no way condoning street racing.

Well, I respect your decision not to promote street racing, but if in your "Terms and Agreement", don't you state you are not responsible for what is said and done? So if you are not responsible, then allow the interested parties to speak. Sorry, but 90+% of threads here are absolute useless anyways, including the race ones. Its more of a hangout, a gathering of people "Passing Time". As much as I appreciate all of it, my question really is "What does it matter what people have to say?".

that argument ranks right up there with "if you don't like child beastiality pr0n you shouldn't watch child beastiality pr0n"

how about "if you don't like that you can't post racing threads here, leave" ... give that a try, PLEASE.

That's pretty harsh and unjustifiable. I'm sure you wouldn't be so forward if you were standing in front of the person you were writing to.
