I am SOOOO livid!!! I had the day off today (Friday) and it had snowed pretty significantly here in NYC last night so I didn't feel like going outside, having to clear off the car, etc etc. I finally forced my butt out of the house at around 3 PM to get something to eat...all was fine. I then went out at around 6 PM for a while and came back at 10 PM...all was fine. I go to leave for my friend's house at around 1 AM or so....all is fine....UNTIL I GET THERE! I got out of the car and went to open the back door to get my jacket and I notice that the cap that covers the lug nuts on my rims is GONE! I thought I was just seeing things since it's super cold, dark, and I was tired. I looked at the front tire and that one was gone too! I dreaded going to look at the other side of the car (but of course I had to check) and all four FU**IN caps were gone!! So that means within the few hours that I had my car out after coming home at 10 PM and leaving the house for my friends, some GHETTO PUNK stole my caps! I can't believe that people can be so jealous or so selfish to do F-D up stuff like this. I'm so pissed at the principle of it all....the fact that it's a new car...the fact that it's MINE...the fact that it looks UGLY now...and the fact that they cost around 40 bucks each to replace. Then what if I put them back on and it wasn't just someone who happened to be in the area and swiped them....but someone who lives around here or comes around often...and swipes em again?

Sorry just had to let off some major steam and let ya'll know that people SUCK!!!!
<--- I wish I was really the devil right about now so I can send the people who did this to hell!

It was me. Seriously, that sucks because someone already has taken one of mine. I think I'll just buy the set and keep replacing as I go.

:mad That sucks!!!! How much do spare caps cost? If they are not too expensive, investing in a extra set of 4 may be a good idea. Just in case some punks decide that they want them.

thanks for supporting my anger guys!:)

I was just so mad last night that words were coming out of my mouth without thought. UMD...they cost about 37 dollars per cap when I checked at the service department when I was there getting my TCM replaced. That's a lot of money, especially if someone is going to swipe them again!

BUT, on the other hand, with a nice night's sleep and not seeing the rims in front of my face I am a lot calmer. I was going to splurge the 160 bucks (and/or check courtesy first because you guys seem to swear by them and their prices). BUT...I never thought of ebay. You guys are the best!!! They are definitely cheaper on there, and maybe an extra set might be a good idea as ammunition for curing a bad night like last night! Thanks!

Yeah, But...

the ones on EBAY are obviously not NEW, so where do you think they are coming from? The guy selling them on EBAY is selling lots of used rims, tire, centercaps, amps and subwoofers. Hmmmmm, where is this stuff coming from, I wonder? EBAY turns the other cheek on this sort of thing and doesn't really care what you are selling and where it came from.

Man..THAT SUCKS.... I am livid when someone even parks to close to me. That is why I moved to CA from New York. As for the E-bay thing. You're probably buying your center caps right back from the guys who stole them.

Preventions:

I saw this wheel lock that covers the cap to prevent theft. It has to be removed with the key. I'm not sure what it's called but it sure is UGLY! I guess you can take it off at a car show or when it's garaged.

Or you can use a car cover when ever you park it.

Or a really sensitive alarm.

I live in Brooklyn too....

You know what? Even if the ones on Evay are stolen, it's still saving me lots of money and if it wasn't me, someone ELSE would buy them. This way I have two sets...if someone steals another set, I still have one more set to buy me time...for cheaper than it costs to even buy ONE from the dealer ($50 for two sets). Then by the time the second set gets stolen (if they do...I'm sure they will) I'll have my settlement check from the accident that took my poor beloved GXE away...and I'll sell the Potenzas and 17 inch stock rims and get a nice set of aftermarket rims that DON'T have caps. We'll see what happens...hopefully this isn't the last time but in Brooklyn, NYC...(or anywhere I guess) I'll always encounter ghetto thiefs.

yup as much as i hate to admit it its happening in my neighborhood in bk
and i live in a pretty good neighborhood so to see this happening is a shame... especially since i can guarentee its a bunch of 16 - 17 year old kids that are running around swiping them... and im sure they all can afford to buy them... its just the "rush" of taking it... i used to know a bunch of kids like that in high school... they knew not to mess with my stuff...

I grew up in the Bronx and lived there until about 3 1/2 years ago. I had my car (not my Max)broken into 3 times. I don't know if this is ethical or not, but maybe you NYers can tape some razor wire into the inside of the caps. This would leave the S.O.B. sorry he went near your car and wonder what else is boobie trapped.

I'd be worried about doing this.. I cut my hand stealing your valve caps... what's to stop me from slashing your tires or keying your car. I personally just took mine off. You can't really tell unless you're looking for em and this way my hands stay clean when airing up.

a set of 4 center caps on EBay

i wonder where this guy got 4 center caps from, he's not selling the rims? jus the caps? suspicious, i would find out where he's from, cuz he jus might be the guy who took them, if i had a set of rims, i wouldn't pull off my center caps to make an extra $20. thats just lame, so obviously he has no need for them. doesn't hurt to take a look on ebay sometimes =)

Oh don't you worry, with thought from punkdork about the same thing, I mentioned it to the kid. He's 18 and in school in Philadelphia. Now although I know that he's not the one who stole MY caps, I can't be for sure that he didn't steal them at all. Now yeah, he COULD have legitimately gotten the caps from a junkyard or body shop but who knows. All I know is that they aren't mine...and if they are stolen, what can I do about them? When I said I wanted both sets that he has he said he was leaving the auction up anyway because if someone bid on them and wanted them, he'd know to get another set. How would they be so readily available if there aren't THAT many crashed 5th gens yet in one local area? He states that he used to do the searching all himself in junkyards and body shops but now he has a friend who works in the "business" so he looks out for them.

All I know is that mine were stolen...I'm sure many others were...and I'd rather pay $60 for two sets than $160 for one set to tie me over until I have money to buy aftermarket rims and sell my OEM 17 inch rims to someone who lives in an area where they don't have to worry about it (or want them badly and don't care). So if anyone wants my rims...I baby my car, all around, so they're in mint condition and the tires only have 3500 miles on them. You let me know, because as soon as my money comes in, they're up for sale!!!

Now it is making more sense to me! This guys is dealing assorted rims & tires, Maxima center caps, subwoofers & amps. Yes, all this stuff is acquired legitimately, I'm sure. Why, these items are just growing on trees in Philadelphia, it must be harvest season!

He has friends in the "business" alright, exactly what business that is - well, that's pretty clear. It's too bad that EBAY closes it's eyes to this sort of thing.

I hope your package arrives in better condition!

Maybe we should etch our VINs on the inside of our caps..or write property of "XXXX" with indeleble marker on the inside. If the theif sees on etched or marked, he'll leave the rest alone.

I was actually thinking that already - looks like a job for the Dremel engraving attachment!
