transmission cooler...

i have an auto 2k1 and I am wondering if a tranny cooler would be beneficial? its only like 50 bucks and it woul dbe something to do. would it prolong the life of my transmission? I usually get on the gas pretty hard pretty much every day... does anyone have one? how hard was the install?

A tranny cooler keeps temps down and extends the life of the transmission. Here in our warm Florida climate it makes a difference. I installed one on my 99 Max and it was not hard at all and worth the price. Planning on installing one on my current 02 Max. Here are some pics from a fellow member who installed a tranny cooler.

Everything I've heard about the coolers is good. I put one on right after I got my 03 SE. It's easy to install, and a perfect time to flush and replace the fluid. Good luck.

I have one, check my web page for pics. I though it was a pretty hard install since there isn't much room. Very nice for those long trips. It shifts like I just left the house.

You can't go wrong with a trans. cooler. One thing to keep in mind; Living in a cold climate you do not want to keep the coolant too cold. To remedy this, place the auxilliary cooler in line from the trans. first, then pipe to the stock cooler located in the radiator. You will get maximum cooling from the auxilliary cooler first, but routing through the stock last, you will keep the fluid at a constant temp. on those really cold days.

for howto, see post #23, near bottom of the page

pro's
car shifts smoother(but also converted to M1 synthetic)
RPM's appear to run faster to redline

con's
In the summer with the vents open, you can feel the warm air blowing off the cooler in the car. (not too bad, because its only doing its job, forced convection cooling)

Just make sure you hook it inline with the stock cooler (do not bypass the stock cooler that is in the radiator)

Its even better if you do the VB mod as the higher pressure increase the temp.
