Need help w/ o2 sensor replacement

Ok...I will try and make a long story short.....I own a '00 I30 (basically a 5th Gen Max from what I'm told). About 3 weeks ago the service engine lights came on and I took the car to the dealership for a diagnostic. They told me I needed an o2 sensor and quoted a price of nearly $400 per sensor (w/ labor). Needless to say, I'm looking for other alternatives.

1) How hard is the replacement job? Can I do it myself (granted I am not that mechanically inclined)?

2) Where can I find the parts at a good price?

Now to reason I'm asking these questions. I need my emissions test done in order to renew my tag (and as you know a "check engine light" on = automatic FAIL) So...if anyone knows of a way to "deactivate" the light so that I can pass the test....that info would be helpful as well. I promise not to name any accomplices at trial (lol).

Thanks in advance for the help.
