GAB = Choked Max?
GAB = Choked Max?
I had the gab quite sometime with my catback exhaust, but my max never really felt the same. I raced my friend's stock integra and only took him by around a car and my friend's slk230 by only half a car. I decided i needed some more power so i got a budget y-pipe, put it on and raced my same friends again. This time the integra tied me multiple times all the way up to 85 and i couldn't pull on him at all even at high end and the slk230 was now quicker as well. The only thing I could think of would be that I wasn't getting enough air-flow in. I decided to try out the PR CAI, after quite a few hours (not the easiest install), i got the PR CAI in the max. I then set out to race the same cars again to see how it performed. I now beat the integra by 3 cars only up to 60 and about 2.5 with the slk230. Me and my friend had also timed my 0-60 multiple times before the PR CAI and it was conistently at 8.1. After the CAI install, we did it around 5 times and every one was around 7.4.<br>
So maybe this should be a warning to everyone doing the gab, that there is a possibility of similar results as what i recieved. Maybe i messed up the k&n filter or something when i installed it
. And i also had the 2.5 inch vac hose running under the car as well. If anyone else has any suggestions for what I might have messed up on or what could possibly be wrong with the GAB feel free to share. I'm still amazed on how just an intake could make such huge differences.

The only thing that came up in my mind is that the stock mid-pipe is not supplying enough airflow to the bigger pipe in your catback exhaust. I think that the GAB should only be used if you're using stock exhaust.

Steve,
I'm wondering which version of the GAB you have?

There are quite a few versions of the GAB coming out lately, I have to download the upgrade.

Hey Ryan. Glad you got back some of the power you had lost. It never did make any sense when we changed Y pipes on both our cars that I had a big power gain and you had a loss. Especially you with the GAB and me with the stock air box(and the rest of my exhaust stock too). Oh well, at least its better now. By the way, wait till you see the front BBK at the next meet!

I like the GAB with "forced" CAI. Works along the Ram Air idea, even though there are minimal gains due to pressure from outside air. However, the air moves more freely through the intake and into the engine when the intake is facing the front of the car, so this certianly seems like it would be more effective than an intake that still requires the engine to suck in all of its air.
