I bought my Max without the CD changer, but after three months have reconsidered and ordered the OEM changer from Courtesy Nissan. My real question concerns taking apart the center part of the dash around the stereo and air conditioning vents -- The instructions say to refer to the Service Manual to see how to take apart the dash and door trim. I was wondering if it really is worth the $200 for a service manual to see how to do this, or if it's something that I can figure out as I go... I'm going to install it with the help of my friends, because I don't want to have to pay the dealer to do it (which is why I didn't get it in the first place). I know that several of you have either had to do this for replacing the dash or your stereo and was wondering if you might have any words of wisdom about how to do this. Thanks in advance!!!!

I put one in my 2K SE.
The hardest part was getting the center vent out.
It pulls straight out, but requires some prying.
The instructions from Nissan are pretty good, with decent pictures.
I do not have a factory manual.
The plugs only fit in holes made for them, so no guessing.
Do follow their suggestion for taping the edges of the dash, as well as putting a towel over the console and seats to protect them from cuts. (especially if you have leather, the edge of the brackets are sharp!)
Good luck.

Go to your dealership and ask them if you can see the service manual, and if you can make copies of it to install. I'm doing the installion myself too, cause I wanted to save money. I have a question for those that did the installation: Did you guys use the rust protectant (after drilling the holes) that Nissan uses, or did you use something else, or nothing at all?
