Wow, I don't even know what to say. That has to be the most disgusting feeling one could ever have. I can't tell what model year you have, but I would think it would be hard to steal a 2k2-2k3 without a key because of the security chip. Anyway I hope for the best, good luck. I'm very sorry to hear this.

Yeah... They must have some very sophisticated equipment and know what they are doing to actually steal a 2k2+ Maxima....unless you disabled it to have the remote start.

Dont the 2k/2k1 have the chip in the key also with the "immobilizer" or whatever? I had to get a new key "programmed" when I bought it.

...sorry bout your car man, that sucks! Where was this red lobster, so we can all avoid that neighborhood?

yea...to make a clean get away with no issues at all...sounds like a tow. even a 4th gen with no shock sensor, chip, window sensors, etc...not that easy to take

Sorry to hear your car is gone. I don't think it's very possible to steal a 2k0-2k3 since they have a electronic smart chip. Did you leave a valet key to a valet or something. That's the only way it can be taken otherwise, it must been towed.

Sorry to hear that. Do you owe any tickets? Did you check the police car pound? Did you ask if Red Lobster has a video cam for the parking lot?

Not if they got it from the front.

I was watching TLC the other nite, Repomen "Stealing for a Living". This guy had a Tow package on his PU truck that could snach a car in 15 seconds without him even getting out of the truck. The PU had a heavily buildt up suspention and a lifting mechanism with controls in the cab. This is a standard PU mind you. It picks the car up by the wheels like car dollies.

They were joking about the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds, more like gone in 15.

Did you check with any of the impound lots in the area just to be sure. That and made sure your payments are up to date.

If the car was stolen this would be the 1st I've ever heard of that's been driven away unless the keys were left in it or someone else had a key.

Realistically, unless one of the above is true, the only way I see the car being taken is by towing.

I guess it isn't that hard to steal a maxi. I saw a 2002 maxi for sale on e bay. It was a recovered car that had been robbed. I miss my car.

damn... how do people steal a car that had a encrypted key in order to start car... that really sucked. I had a friend who spend so much money hooking up his honda prelude, then later on it was stripped down to the frame. He later found out his best friend did that to him... now that sucks. Dont worry, the police will find it. You better get ready for some missing parts though. (Eg - HIDS)

Please keep us updated as to your situation, I for one am worried that our cars are starting to be stolen now. The lights I can live with, the whole car is a different story.

I see you're in Texas, could Maximas be the hot item in Mexico now?

It can be done easier than you may think. A person can walk in from the street with the VIN from your Max and have a key made and coded at the dealership. They are supposed to ask for ID but not all of them do. Once they have the key, they simply use it to unlock the door and drive it away.

yes, well IF he had the key, that could happen. There are several perfected ways of jacking a 4th gen (most popular is break the window and climb in without opening the doors, pop the hood, but dont open it, cut the wires to the hood alarm sensor, open the hood, disconnect the alarm, hotwire the car...wont ever set off the alarm because we dont have shock/window sensors) i thought 5th gens were better in the security department. Also, unlocking the car without disarming the alarm...doesnt that set off the alarm or does the chip take care of that

I live in Texas. I have not heard from the insurance yet.
I have no idea what to think of this mess. I just hope I
dont get screwed. When I purchased the car I also got
the GAP insurance. What exactly does this insurance do?

Sorry to hear about your loss. As for Gap insurance, it covers the amount of money you owe to the bank after insurance has paid you for your loss. Good move, cause depreciation is a bit*h.

The only way i can think they could have taken the car if not by flatbed is with a consult II they maybe able to or with plug a new ecu in with a key for that ecu? This sound plausable?

How many sets of keys do you have ? Any signs of forced entry ? Any witnesses ? Up to date with your car payments ?

Most larger insurance companies, when dealing with newer (read: expensive) auto thefts, will file the theft (your info and your cars info) into the NICB index, and with help from local law enforcement x-reference "hot lists" which include fresh theft reports and recoveries.

They have a lot more tools than what you think. Oh, and be prepared to give a sworn or recorded interview regarding the loss. Be prepared to be asked the same questions several times, make sure you dont trip up, as any inconsistencies can give them a reason to grill you even more. Good luck, and if you have any specific ?'s about the first party comprehensive claims procedures, hit me up with a pm.

No, it can't be done like that. Vin number or not, they have to have your car in possession to program a key. When I needed to get a 3rd key for my car I had to actually bring the car in for them to make one. And I knew the people that worked there, so it wasn't like they were trying to make sure it was me. . .

Makes me think that backing into a parking space is no longer an option. Pull in and lock the front wheels full left or right should help deter this type of ******. I suspect it's hard to quietly tow a car from the rear with it trailing cockeyed and the front tires smoking.
