OEM Battery Life on 2K?

Does anyone know what kind of battery came with the 2K? Is it a 48, 60 or 72 month battery? Mine has 48 months on it now and I don't want to be stuck in the cold with a dead battery this winter.

A lot of guys complain about short battery life (2 yrs sometimes)
I'd say you have lucked out on the high side. In your sig it does not say what part of the country you are in. But if it were me here in a cold clime, id prolly just bite the bullet.

Bay Area California - that would probably explain the long life. I think you're right, better safe than sorry.

In CA, that is a different story. Get her tested. Might have some life left in that old box of lead.

I have a 2k w/ the OEM battery and I live in Ohio. Should I change it out before the winter or wait a year?

I think Nissan puts in crappy OEM batteries. I know because both my 92 and 97 Max OEM batteries died within 18 months. I then bought Diehard Golds and never have a problem. The Diehards are maintenance free, but they are worth the extra $$. I have my 03 Max a little over a year with about 5500 miles, and I hope the OEM battery this time will last longer. Wishful thinking?

mine just died on Sunday!!!

I was about to do a search on Maxima.org, but had to resort to browsing - and here my question was right on the first page of posts! I think Nissan engineered the battery to last right up to the end of the 3 year 36000 mile waranty (3 years + 1 month and 37,000 miles on my 2000).

It is as simple as this. If nissan purchasing dept. can source a battery that is $10 cheaper than the rest, and then buy a 100,000 units for a production run. Then they are a million ahead of the game.

I would definately change it out before this winter. I did mine before last winter as mine was beginning to start up slower... But I do have a higher mileage car.

Had to replace mine a couple weeks ago. If you're worried you may want to get it checked.

My OEM battery lasted about 3 years before most of the water in it was gone. I always forget to check that, so it was my fault. I would think that, with regular maintenance, average battery life is between 3 to 5 years.

I went to Sears and bought a no-maintenance DieHard Gold. A five-minute swap that I did myself in their lot did the trick for me. I don't want to have to keep checking battery water levels.

Peace.

80,000 miles and 4 winters in Minnesota on the OEM battery.
Still starts up like a champ.
It can last that long...knock on wood.

Same with me Spartan5, 2K with OEM battery and never a problem. Keep it clean and filled properly and should last 5 yrs...maybe even more. A battery can self discharge across its surface if not kept hospital clean...not a large amount but enough to cause a problem if the top of it is oily, dirty and basically crap looking. Keep them clean guys and if you don't believe me put a DVOM from positive terminal to the battery case itself...you will be surprised to see a voltage present if dirty.

Im in Iowa and my battery on my 95 lasted 7 years and 125K miles. Still good but I changed it b/c was starting to wonder when Id run out of luck. I expect the same longevity form my 02's battery

No worry, My OEM battery on my 2k max already last 4 years now and it's still going. Always check the fluid level in the battery, add distilled water if necessary

4 years and 80000 miles with no problems.
You MUST maintain the water level with distilled water or all bets are off.

As for maintenence free batteries, they suck. In the six cars I have owned, I have never gotten more than a year and a half out of them. I dont think they are any different than regular batteries, except they dont have means to refill the water.

Stick with your stock battery and check the water every couple of months.

You need to drive the car on a highway or interstate after adding water. That will ensure the distilled water mixes with the electrolyte. A 10-15 mile trip should do the trick. Otherwise, you'll need to put a charger on the battery if you don't want to drive it.
