where did you get your clear lense from? did you end up getting the frost, milky or ridged clear lens. i need to order mine as well and was just curious. thanks

I know with my 2000 lights i put them in for 8 min at 250 degrees. 20 mins seems a little too long.

If you have an electric oven, I would say no higher than 225 degrees, if you have a gas oven, you may have to increase the tempature. No matter which one you have, don't walk away from your oven, check the the seal every minute after about 5 minutes being in the oven with a toothpick or something to see if the sealant is soft.

20 minutes might be too long...
i think i put mine in the oven for 15 minutes...
it all depends...just keep an eye on them!
it is worth it...also buy some glue to reseal them, becuase water can get inside and its a pain in the *** to get rid of!
good luck man

Kinda afraid to do mine,
Ive had my inserts sitting in the garage for 6 mos.
because I wanted to take apart my clear center tail(paint the ugly brown circuit board).
200 for 10 turned it into a weird free form sculpture with a black and red wire sticking out.
Tis the season, perhaps I could tell my wife I got her a new Christmas decoration.

I am not familiar with the procedure so excuse my amature questions:
1. Do you just place the headlight in the oven, nothing on the bottom of it to avoid the oven racks from possibly melting the plastic?
2. When you pry the lights apart isn't the sealant GOOEY which will start stringing when you pull it apart and possibly getting on the reflective part on the inside of the housing?
3. How do you "pop" out the amber lense once apart?
4. When putting it back together what sealant do you use, also the sealant that you use could you possibly pull it apart later if needed, obviously after its placed in the oven again.

Thank you!

Manny you are donated, IgS paypal Kev the $20-25 and get it overwith so you can search.
A ton of info in the "how to's" and search.
I couldnt even begin to repost it here.
My Salvidore Dali clear center reminds me to take it easy with the oven.

1) Put the headlight on top of a pan turned upside down. The heat will travel from the bottom up and melt the sealant.
2) The sealant will be gooey, I suggest you buy some cheap butter knives. No tools that you plan to keep, the sealant is hard to remove once it comes in contact with something.
3) The lens just pops out, alot easier than you think.
4) Use any outside clear sealant, just be careful to clean the inside of the lens before you close it up. I will have to open mine up again in the Spring to clean the finger prints I left.

Ok folks i just did my other one for you with pics. it is easy and quick. if you want i will do them for you, you just have to help me wire them in my 2000 now.

Put the headlight on a cookie tray below and place it in the OVEN for 7 mins at 250 degrees!

Now where is the best place to get the clear ones like the parking lights?

Search for a thread with "frosted" in the title. I'm not sure how old it is, I haven't seen it in a while and like I said I bought mine over 6 months ago now. But that thread has the name and contact information of the company that makes the clear lenses. They were pretty cheap...around $8-$10 shipped across the country.

The lens will come from the flood lights at Home depot, about $6.00 for a set of 2. Its in a clear white bag in the bulb section right before you get to the garden section.

ICU,
Thanks for your response. For the part on placing the headlight on top of a pan turned upside down. Let me see if I get this correct:
Get a pan and place it upside down, then place the headlight on top of it, now does it matter how I sit the headlight, maybe I am looking into it too much, but it seems as if the plastic may melt?

Also should I use 200 degrees for around 10 min, I have a gas stove. This does not let off any fumes correct?

Yeah thanks but I already have that thread saved. I was wanting one that looked like the orange one if someone knew right off hand. clear but with the ridges. i think someone used one from an outside house light. i guess i will just order the frosted one from the Sacramento office.

Are they already the right size or do they need to be cut into smaller circles to fit? Has anyone done this yet and verified that they fit well? Even though I already bought the smooth frosted pieces I'd rather use ridged ones if it's not too hard to do it.

I think it said Dremel down the Home Depot ones.
I am worried that someone will do on top of stove.
How do you set that at 200, right?
And only cook one at a time.
At least that would cut a very expensive F-up in half.
First guys who did this used hair dryers or heat guns.
Wish I would of taken a pic of my melted center, you guys would be LOL.

Clearing out the Orange Lens!!

ok i went to Home Depot and this what i got below in the lighting section. its the only thing i could find and it cost me 8 bucks. then i had to dremel it out and down to size. you also have to create 3 notches in it so it wont turn on you once you put it into place.

what do you guys think?

I'd go heat gun or hair dryer. But oven if you dare.
Just remember my clear center ended up looking like Paris Hilton's
*****.

Does anyone know where I can get a "clouded" lens that resembles projector headlight? I want to replace the top lens (the one that is not round.)

To get that lens out, you will first have to dremel it out carefully somehow as it is attached to the housing (ie.. not removable) and then figure out how you will put that new lense in its place and secure it since there are no brackets holding it in.

Sorry jaco,
The server has been as busy as a $20 ***** at an org convention.
Reading what Red has to say, could be more trouble than it is worth to do the upper one. Most everybody got 1/4 thick plexi circles that were like sandblasted one side from this company in CA. But only for the lower one that is a clean snap-in. Hopefully someone will post it for you as i got the next few days gearin up for Christmas.

I agree, he's one of my musical inspirations. Get the album "Bright Size Life". It is a Pat Metheny album with Jaco on bass. It's amazing.

The clear lense in the head light looks amazing, but I am to scared to do it.

Thats exactly what I was talking about, you did a perfect job Redstradic. I smoked my lens so that you can't see the amber bulb behind it.

I recommend a heat gun, a hair dryer does not get hot enough.

Man that looks awesome redstradic.

How did you open your HIDs up...heat gun or oven? What did you use to reseal them? And what type of bulb is it to replace and make it orange? Thanks.

the best thing to use is the oven, a heat gun will just be a pain in the butt trying to heat the plastic and pry open the headlights at the same time. just put them in the OVEN for no more than 7 mins at 250 degrees. take them out and start prying it apart. it will be hot so just use some towels. to reseal it, all you need to do is put the main part of the housing back in the oven for another 7 mins at 250 degrees. its the piece with the mounting posts and only that piece. then you just need to push the pieces back together and your done. just make sure to clean all the parts and get your finger prints off before you reseal it!

as far as the bulb goes, i bought it off of ebay from this person.
http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=52184718&ssPageName=L2
i have bought bulbs from him before and they have given me no problems at all!
