Car heating up!!! Help
Car heating up!!! Help
This thread is not really related to Maximas but its the reason why I bought one 3 months ago :-)
I own a 94 Camaro Z28 and in September my car started to heat up. I didn't know why so I just parked it. I was in the process of selling the car and buying another one. I still bought my car, the maxima, but now I need to sell the camaro to pay off part of my loan. This is what I know:
1. When the radiator fan starts, the service engine light turns on, and when the fan stops, the service engine light turns off. Regularly the light is off.
2. For some reason, the dash says that the radiator is low in water all the time but in reality its full.
I need to sell the car asap. Any mechanics out there that can help...Thanks

I replaced my 94 Z28 a couple months back with a 2002 SE Maxima. The problem with the over heating is probably due to air in the cooling system. Common problem after flushing the coolant. There are 2 brass bleed screws, one off the thermostat housing and the second on a hose right above the first bleed screw.
1) When the engine is cold verify that the radiator is full.
2) Run the car until it gets warmed up (above 220* or a little above the half way mark). Never let your car get into the red zone.
3) Turn off the car and put a towel around and under the thermostat housing. You don't want to get any water on the opticrap, this is expensive and time consuming to replace.
4) Turn the the thermostat bleed screw very slowly. There will be hiss from steam escaping followed by coolant. When the coolant appears, close the screw.
5) Follow the above process for the second screw.
That's it.
The second problem sounds like a bad sensor to the computer, another common problem. It's located on the right side of the water pump. Replace this sensor.
