i have mine (passport 8500) mounted on top of clock on the center console, it's the only location where it didnt "stick out" too much... though the location seems a bit low, i get excellent coverage. i was also able to "pop out" the clock and hide the wire in the dash, opposed to having it run outside...

For maximum performance your not supposed to mount them at the same level as the front top window tint strip, or with any obstructions in the line of it's sensors view to the front and rear. Although it is nice to have it hidden out of site from the cops.

Mine is tucked just beneath the rearview mirror, high enough to "blend" with the mirror when seen from the front, but below the tint. The buttons aren't too far out of reach in this spot. I figure I don't need "360 degree laser protection", cause once the laser goes you're done anyway (though my 8500 gets false laser alarms from emergency vehicles' strobes once in a while). I tried placing it just above the clock, but I hate the long reach every time I had to change the brightness. (BTW, love the remote mute button just off the hand brake handle).

Oh yeah, one gripe I have about the design is when the detector is mounted high by the mirror, I have a tough time seeing the display at night when you have cars behind you. All you see is headlight reflexions and you have to switch the brightness to medium (try monitoring the number of signals in the Chicago Skyway with somebody behind you and you'll know what I mean). Now the Escort bought Belltronics, I hope Escort picks up a few tips from Belltronics in casing designs. That is the only thing I liked about my old Bell, no reflections at all.

I have my 8500 low on the windshield, just a bit above the wipers. I get excellent coverage from that spot, both front and back.
