My car is about 9 months old. Previosly, I got the Service Engine Soon light when it was 1 month old. It went away by itself.

What causes the Service Engine Soon light to come up? Will the performance of the car be reduced when it is on?
I was always woundering, what causes Service Engine light to come up?

Thanks.

A lot of things can cause it.... To find out why, I believe you need to see the code as to what's wrong (or what was perceived to be wrong). Not sure, but I think there are ways to do this without visiting your frindly Nissan dealer???? If not, can always unplug battery, reset EPU and see if it comes back...

At about 18,000 miles, the maintenance light came on.
Took it to the dealer, they hooked up the computer,
told me that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced.
So they did... under warranty of course.
