What Causes Park/Brake switch to go Faulty!

A lot of times I will attempt to start my car an all instrumentation comes on but no sound of starter turning over until I push up on the gear shifter. After that car starts up normally. This happens about twice a week!

By the way, this is the Automatic 2001-SE

Sounds like it could be the neutral safety switch from what you describe.
