Cruise Control Woes...

Help! My cruise control quit working!
I hit the main cruise button and the cruise indicator lights up on the dash. However, when I hit the set button, nothing happens.
I tried everything I can thing of and I'm really dreading taking it to the stealership!
I checked the button on the clutch, it gets depressed ok. I checked for fuses and couldn't even find one that the cruise was tied to. I reset the ECU by disconnecting the power. Does any body have anything else I could try before taking the car to the stealership to get raped?

Thanks!!!

Don't know if you'll get raped. You should have some sort of warranty. Don't all Max's come with bumper-to-bumper for at least a little while?

Mine went out of warranty this summer.
It's a 2000. All that's left is power train.

Oh sorry, thought it said 2003...

According to the 2000 service manual, when the "set" button is pressed, power is supplied from ASCD steering switch terminal 2. However, the diagnostic in the book indicates that the "set" indicator will blink if there is any problem in the circuit.

So, only the first cruise control light goes on, but not the second? That indicates one of the following failures

1) ASCD Brake/Stop Switch - This is not the same switch that lights your brake lights.

2) ASCD Steering Switch - Could be bad switch on steering wheel

3) Vehicle speed sensor

Hope that helps some... You really need CONSULT to troubleshoot this one.

Thanks a bundle. I need to get a service manual at some point.
With the info you gave me, I can at least try to check the brake/stop switch. Can you tell me where it is located?

Thanks!

At the "top" of your brake pedal, right near the hinge, there are 2 sensors. The right one lights your brake lights, the left one is part of the ASCD circuit.

You've found the clutch switch already. You might take a voltmeter to these switches to check continuity.

Good luck!!!
