JDM B18 vs. VQ35DE

My friend has a heavily modded manual hatchback civic w/ a JDM B18 engine swap, headers, intake, downpipe, underdrive pulley, catback, clutch and full suspension. I have a 2k3 auto maxima w/ intake and catback. He wanted to give it a run to test out both engines. We both had a passenger in the car on the roll @ 20mph going uphill. We were neck to neck the whole way...by 80 mph i'd only managed 1/2 a car on him. He was amazed..."I expected it to be fast but not that fast". We went out and chill afterwards. It was cool. Whar do u guys think?

for him to have a downpipe that means that he would have been turbo. I am assuming this was a typo, because a turbo B18 hatch should smoke you. anyways, nice race. If you would have told me the cars and not the outcome i would have thought that the hatch would pull on you. IF you get another chance to race, try from a higher speed like 50mph. I wonder if he could edge you out??

Unless he's referring to the downpipe section of a two piece header:

But if that is the case, I don't see any real benefit to that alone.

I have a friend that has a 5G Civic sedan with very similar mods (B18C1, 4-2-1 header, exhaust, pulleys and VAFC) and he ran a best time of 14.5 seconds. So seeing as Shogun has I/E on a VQ35 Max, I'm not surprised at the outcome.

Peace.

B18C????One of my good girl friends has a B18c5 hatch with P28 chipped ecu 9100 rev limit, intake, mugen head gasket, and hacked up exhaust. She ran the best of 13.3@106 with those mods on 185 series firestones. Now she has full 2.5" exhaust and DC 4 to 1 headers. I love that little rocket of a car.

Ya, those little engines can make about 180-185 with all bolt-ons plus they have like almost half the weight.

i think in up-hill you have little bit more advantage because of tq....

i ran a semi-built H22(with all the bolt-ons and pistons, but no head) in a EG civic hatch once, we were dead even all the way up to 140 with me slightly pulling away every shift, and him catching up.

2 piece header consists of the primary and secondary.
