Get your hands on a good alarm. If you don't garage your car or at least get an alarm, they will be back for the replacement lights... Believe me!!!

Yeah, I usually park my car in a garage at my apt. I fell asleep last night without putting it in. I HEARD them do it, but didn't get up for whatever reason. Sounded like it came from somewhere else. Im in orlando so this problem is spreading from the NE. How much and what kind of alarms are you guys getting? I would be really interested. Even if I park it in the garage religiously I know they can get em anytime anywhere almost. Takes seconds to pop'em. What a pain. Is the anti theft really worth it? Seems they break the plastic anyway, dont see how different bolts would help. I dont know how to post pics. I dont donate (actually I tried but they denied my AMX Paypal payment, so whatever). I don't have HTML posts turned on, dont know how to turn it on. BUt I've seen someone with a pic of one in their sig. My car looks exactly like that. Glacier pearl everything. Everyone check EBAY too, I saw some from NJ on there with broken tabs. Report him. Ba*tards.

You might want to take a copy of the letter we got in the northeast to your local dealer, or call Nissan Customer Service. They may agree to install the datadots w/ brackets to possibly deter thieves.

Thanks to soundmike, the PDF is available below:

I have to commute to NYC very often, my gf lives there and now I'm stuck with a car making 450/mo payments and not being able to take my car where I need it!!! I call that absurdity. I'm selling it taking a loss saving up some money and probably getting a 5th gen Prelude. If you're too worried to drive it, what's the point of having it!!! My 2cents... Anyone else? PS If anyone has suggestions for a replacement car under 14k I'm all ears. Thanks everyone SHIFT_End rant

got hit once on august 21st (i call it doomsday )

since then, it has been garaged everyday except 2 nights but that was because I was in western PA

Insurance adjuster came and quoted damage to $4496.03 and minus my deductible I got $3996.03 to repair it...we got it fixed for cheaper - but now it is a garage **** and just sits there and doesn't go anywhere...can't get rid of it because it is worth 10k less than what we paid for it...

well here's the pics: http://maxima.cardomain.com/memberpage/224380/5

Did that car (the GLE) have Data Dots? It looks like what other .org members have been describing as thefts of HID w. the DD on them, particularly there was damage to the fenders.

if you're talking about my car...nope - this was before the recall - recall was in october i believe -- these thieves were just messy -- imagine what these thieves would do if data dots were on them?

Thanks to all those theivin' fockers up in NY and NJ
my fockin insurance rating went up. Does Nissans deterent kit help ANY? I thought about having it done at the dealer but from what I can tell it looks like you have to pay for the kit, but I haven't seen how much $ to buy and install. All those who've had them stollen my sympathies to ya.

It would probably not do much to protect the lights unless there was a switch or sensor in the headlight area. Otherwise, it probably uses a pin switch to protect the hood.

I should be vp then... 3 times.. twice in queens, once in manhattan. My solution... i moved. Came down to philly... no problems here yet. (I moved because of job relocation, not the theft problem, although it actually did factor into my decision because I couldn't use my car in NYC because of all the paranoia of HID theft.)

If you are near Central NJ, go talk to Don (Pearl96Max) ... He knows exactly what you need, and can put it in for you cheaper than your local neighborhood stereo joint.

spoke to Nissan NA consumer affairs and she told me that 6th gens are not being offered in the NE with the HID option because of this. they figured its easier not to sell them here than to reengineer their existing set up i guess.

that's not true.. I see a ton of them with HIDs around..

they did make it far harder to jack the headlights with the 6th gens though

the woman told me that for my info, if i was looking to buy a new 04 that they are not sending them to the NE, this was today...i am sure that there are several hundred maybe even thousands that have been purchased in the last yr since they came out(before the theft problem got bad). i am sure you could still get one new in the NE through dealer trade, or possibly special order, but otherwise, no HID equiped 6th gens will be shipped to the NE. that again is what she told me today. her name is collette and her direct line is 310-771-8458. you can call her with any issues you have be it dealers refusing TSB fixes or any other issue. she was very nice and got answers to all my questions while i was on the phone, and also told me the dealer if requesting a letter from nissan for the theft deter. kit and data dots is wrong...if you have a 02-03 they should do it no questions asked.

Woww, I'm surprised this happened down in FL. I figured if anything, it would more likely happen down in Miami then Orlando, but I guess anything's possible? And I'm looking to move down to South Florida by next year, so I hope this trend doesn't follow me.....

Did you report this to the police?

Im out in Kissimee kind of.... I dont think it is rampant. But I have started seeing alot of Saturns and Civics with awfully close looking color HIDS. I hope this trendy headlight craze goes away. Its just stupid for headlights....grow up.

I know people that are riveting the lights down.
There is a security clip Nissan sells now that is supposed to prevent stealing. Also if you do some custom work to rivet the lights down to the inside of the bumper or somewhere else it should help.

EACH headlight assembly is about $750, thats the whole plastic headlight with bulbs and ballast (the part that makes a HID work...).

with your org discount its only about $600 ea. so 1200 for lights + miscellaneous parts. i think it worked out to be $1300 not $1500
