Question about installing brake pads...

Well I installed some new rotors tonight and when I tried to put on the stillen metal matrix pads, i got the fronts on fine, but i ran into a problem on the back. the piston back there wont compress enough for me to slide it over the caliper with the new pads.. i tried everything i knew, even used a c-clamp and let a little fluid out hoping that it would give, but everytime id release teh c-clamp, it would come back out.. and it just wouldnt fit over the new pads.... what gives? i got a guy who is installing my stainless brake lines sunday and ill jusat get him to put the rear pads on for me since he will be back there, but what am i doing wrong? thanks fellas, peace

Rear disc... I haven't had to work on my rear caliper yet, but take a look at the caliper piston. See any slots in it? With rear disc, many manufacturers use a screw out parking brake design, meaning you'll have to turn in the piston. If you're just clamping and pushing in, you may damage this.

Check that.. you WILL damage your calipers (I have 2 friends that have done it!)... Always a good idea to have a manual when working, even the $9 Haynes book from O'Reilly's should cover that one.

You need to turn it with pliers (if you have the patience), or there's a tool you can buy at any auto parts store for $10 for rear brakes, will fit right in there and allow you to turn it a lot easier, then you'll be able to put the caliper back on. That's how it worked on my 2k, your mileage may vary.

GreekMaxima,
I've got the Hawk HP's up front as well with cross-drilled rotors and they also make alot of noise under high speed breaking(60 mph)..like a groaning sound. Works great at low speed stopping though. When I get the chance I'm changing to a less harsh set of pads.

Just installed HPS yesterday (1/18).
Original rotors have been resurfaced (50k).
I put some antisquealing compound on the back of pads.
100 miles by now no noise at all.
