Crank position sensor Recall (read)

Don't know if this is old news or not by i just recieved a recall notice from NNA.(Nissan North America)

Reason for recall:

On some 2000-2003 model year Nissan vehicles, there is a possibility that the engine might stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor fails.
This may result in the "SES" light coming on or reduced ebgine power . If the engine stops running while driving , this could result in a crash without warning.

If this is old news please disregard, but since i have only had my max for only 6 months i am taking mine in Wensday to have it done.

If you had any service from a dealership or brought any parts from a Nissan dealership , then you should be registered in there computer to send me one. I guess if i never took my car in to get the tranny flush/fill , i would still be waiting for one too and never knew anything about the recall.

When did they send these out? I have a 2000, built in 99, and have not yet received a letter.

2000's aren't part of this... these mostly affect 02+ vehicles

The sensor recall does not apply to 2k Maxima. It only applies to 2k2 and 2k3.

Your dealer told you a bunch of crock. The sensor recall affects Sentra, Altima,Murano, 350Z and Maxima.

Nissan got a bad batch of sensors, so basically all 3.5L's are being recalled. Got mine done last week, ran fine when I took it in and I notice no difference after. Took about 75 min. to do work, by the time I get a letter telling me my car needs this recall, the job will long be done!

nismaniac,

Just wanted to tell you that your car looks really beautiful in that pic. Love the color of my 91 and the paint has held up pretty well after all these years. I looked for quite a while to find your color in a used 03 but couldn't find one in my area so settled for a BlackMax w/blk leather.

Don't get me wrong guys my BlackMax looks really nice but I'm partial to Burgundy and the color seems to hold up really well for the long haul.

BTW what color is your interior?

Regards,
Mr. P

I saw this awhile ago, called the dealer about it, he checked my VIN and said I didnt apply..which I knew was a crock of $hit, because my numbers fell in between the VINS that were specified..said it would only apply if I got the letter from Nissan...hopefully I'll get the letter soon, if others are starting to see them now..

Ugh, I left my car at the dealer the entire day yesterday so they could do the recall + state inspection. Today, the car feels like $hit, press the accel. at 40mph and the engine is all jerky/bucks before continuing. Later on, I got a SES light. Back to the dealer I go . It's so true these people fix one thing, yet create other problems at the same time.

I appreciate that Mr. P, thanks for the compliment. I like the color a lot as well. I really don't see very many merlot 5th gens around my area. My interior is charcoal (no leather ). I really like the charcoal interior. I had to choose between a grey luster w/frost and this merlot w/charcoal.

Had my car in this past week for them to confirm yet another BOSE stereo in need of replacement. They told me I was in need of the recall and it took less than 45 minutes.

Never had problems previously and notice no difference now.

I would NOT leave nitrous on...

and I'm taking my injen off... the service mgr already told me he'd "void a warranty from the intake to the cat" if he saw an aftermarket intake. Could he? I doubt it. Am I going to take 15 min to take the injen off before bringing it in so it won't cause a headache? You bet.

This topic has been covered in the following thread. You can confirm your car is part of this recall by referencing post #17 which has the VIN's in question.

I had my CP sensor replaced last Friday. In light of this AND the MAF sensor issues, what are the chances of some other sensor(s) going bad as well.
