Just curious if the VQ in the Infiniti I30's (1998 model) suffers the same coil maladies as the 2k-2k1 Max version. A good friend of mine has a '98 I30, i sold her the car with 30k on it, she has 70k on it now. She brought it in for a tune-up because it was missing, hesitating, CEL on, etc. It had a code for a misfire on cyl #2. The plugs (trashed originals) were replaced with correct NGK and reinstalled, she also had a FI service and TB service done at her request.

After reinstalling the 6 coils and the new plugs the problem was somewhat better but still noticeable, especially when coming to a stop light, the car sometimes seemed to drop out (misfire.) These seem to be the symptoms people are getting with bad Max coils so I thought it might be worth a shot to ask. She has driven about 1000 miles and the SES light has not come back on.
