Brake question

Has anyone had their rear brake pads wear out before their front brake pads? I just had my rears done at the dealer and they told me that this is normal on the 2K2 and 2K3 models.

don't see how that would be possible with a FWD car...

Yes that's a pretty common occurence. Mine were totally gone at 40K miles (still lots left on the front though). I noticed them wearing faster than the front but was never able to detect any problems with the parking brake not fully releasing and the rotors always spun freely.

Interesting....I have never heard of this occurring on any other type of car.

Futemv, it has nothing to do with FWD, RWD, AWD, 4WD. Usually front pads wear down because the majority of braking power is in the front brakes (momentum of the car shifts forward when braking).

In this case, it might be that the brake system is set up for extre pressure on rear pads, perhaps to reduce "diving" into stops, which could account for excessive rear pad wear. Not sure that that is a very effective method, though. Could it also be that the rear pads are a less durable material than the fronts?

On my Honda, I replaced front pads 3x as often as rear pads.....
