2k3 3rd grind???

i have a 2k3 it just broke 11,000 yesterday and i've been somewhat concerned with the shifting..Its been like this for a while but i always forgot to address it to .org members and well whenever i am at a high speed and want to get on it a little.. I down shift to 3rd and ONLY 3 rd gear and it makes a grinding sound...i have no clue why it is doing this...maybe the teeth are worn out? i don't understand how this could be i don't grind or miss my shifts so what could it be? all input could be helpful?

i used to have the same problem on my 2k2. i cant say that i know the reason for it but i ended up having my transmission replaced by the dealer free of charge. the new tranny has not had any similar problems.

i had that same problem with my 2k max last summer until i put one of the rods from the diff through the tranny and out the side of the bell housing. it just sound like the 3rd gear syncro is bad.

Take it to the dealer, I had mine overhaul my entire transmission for the same 3rd gear grind, it's good now.

Take it to the Nissan dealer. I also complained of a 3rd gear grind and the dealer replaced it with no question. Press for a new tranny.

MIne grinds 2nd/3rd and fourth in both my 2k2/ and my 2k3..

I used REdline MT90, Amsoil 2000 and Nissan OIL.. No luck... Both cars, same tranny, same problems.

I have driven 3 other 2k3's. Same crap.

Learn to live with it until it goes BOOM.. 7years 160K warranty will cover it

Of the three gear oils you tried which did you like the best? I've tried the Amsoil and didn't like it - I got a lot of grinding when the car was cold. The Nissan oil seemed pretty good. Right now I've got some generic GL-4 (either Quaker State or Pennzoil) from my local quick lube in the tranny and it seems ok too.

Hmm.. here is the break down.

2k2 Maxima 6speed
0-20,000kms - Nissan fluids - SUCKED @SS
20,000kms - 33,000kms (R.I.P) Amsoil Series 2000 - major improvement for the first 5 K then back to the same old crappy shifting.

2k3 Maxima
0-10,000kms - Nissan @ss fluid - sucks crap
10,000kms - 30,000kms - Redline MT90 - Much improved shifting - cold weather not tested - still grinding
30,000kms - 37,000kms (current) - Amsoil Series 2000 - Same as MT90 - a littel better when warm, grind bizatch when cold.

GOing to go back to MT90 to see
