most miles per tank
Today for the firsst time in 19 months with my 02 max 6-spd I got 337 miles to a tank and my dte was flashing 29 to empty. Funny thing is I ve been using premium since I got my car except for two times, my recent was with my last fill up, with which I used mid-grade.My question is does mid-grade burn more efficiently than premium. Don't say it's my driving habits either because I've never raced and only step on it once in a while to merge or so. Does this mileage suck?

I only live 1.5 miles from work and I average about 15-19 mpg. It sucks but I cant even get to 60 mph on the way to work, so I am constantly shifting between 2nd and 3rd. Its basically one big hill both ways, with 3 stoplights and 2 stopsigns. My brakes hate it too.

The most I have driven before fillup was 380 miles. It took 14.4 gallons to top it off. It was highway driving about 70-75 mph. I have never seen my low fuel warning light because I don't like to get that low and not be able to find a good gas station.

drove 340 miles, light didn't come on so I filled up only 5 gallons...
drove another 147 miles then filled up cause the needle was low but no light and only filled up 15 gallons to full
so 487 miles on 20 gallons = 24.35 mpg

This weekend, I drove from Athens, GA back to Atlanta, GA. This is about a 60 mile stretch, roughly. I set the MPG computer right as I left Athens. By the time I was in Atlanta, I was averaging 31.9 miles per gallon.
I was doing 75-80mph in 6th gear, 2 or 3 stops for traffic lights.

+/- 530, all highway. As it is right now with mixed driving (mostly highway) i get 420-ish.
In all city, best i could muster up was 290 or so.

I get, at best, 250 miles per tank with about 85% city/15% highway driving.

If you think the thread is lame /gay then don't fooking respond to it. just never got over 300 per tank and would like to see if I'm alone or if that's the average for everyone.

You're not alone. I am with you on the mileage issue. It's just that these threads have been made many times in my relatively short time on these boards, and whenever someone posts some crazy number, I think it's pretty lame.. how can I average ~230 in the city, and someone else averages ~330 in a city somewhere else?

I have a 2k 5sp. I run 87 octane. I drive 180 miles round trip to work every day m-f. I keep the tach at 3k. I get 400miles to a tank all day long. I have 66k on her right now and that number climd way too fast every day. I wanna get a half a million miles on this motor with nothing but routine maintenance! All HAIL THE VQ!

What you saw is about my average and I've always used premium.
If the car requires premium, and you are putting less than premium in it, your mileage should go down since the motor will be knocking more, the ECU will pull timing to keep the engine safe (reduced power and efficiency). Since you saw the opposite, I'm guessing the formulation may be a bit different, or the premium you were getting before sucks.

Miles per tank is not particularly helpful, since it's hard to say when you are all refilling, unless you're gauging on when the light first goes on. I calculate my MPG every fillup. I use 93 (91 is not available locally). I have a 2k with a 5 speed. Combined city/highway I got 24 on my last tank. The least I've ever gotten was about 22. Generally it's 23-24. On my long highway trips I will get up to 27 mpg. The EPA for this car is rated at 21/27. The tank is 18.5 gallons IIRC. Thus, if I had a full tank and drove until I ran out of gas I could get 500 mpg.
It seems that a lot of people her get closer to 20 combined, but my mileage has always been very good.
My light generally goes on around 250 miles, though it will not take more than 15-15.5 gallons if I fill it up then, so the buffer zone is a good 3 gallons.
I agree with itdood's assertion about finding better mileage on a lower octane gas. Anything lower than 91 in these cars will not only decrease power, but also gas mileage. It will not be as significant a percentage as the price savings going from 91/93 to 87 and taking advantage of knock sensors, but it will chew somewhat into those perceived savings, and the performance difference can be noticeable on a dyno or 1/4 time.
