Deciding to buy maxima Why are navi maximas so rare?

Are they not worth it? I see alot of tl's in similarly priced range new with navi being sold. I would venture to say at least one out of 20 has them where as I have never even seen a 5th gen with navi. I can't afford a 2004, or like the looks, so that's out of the question. I just can't find a car in my medium while being practical.

Pros- In 16k price range by end of this year, nicely equipped (leather, heated seats, sunroof), except navi, less than 4 years old, with a good reliability record, awesome performance for it's class. Very Good mpg considering performance.

Cons-Premium fuel, very rare used with navi, even more so in 16k range, sequential shift? tailights are not my style. Not too much of an eye catcher stock.

I know I'm asking alot for the money but, I'm just spoiled with my legend coupe. And need to upgrade while being practical on a budget.

i believe that the TL's 2000+? came with alot of things standard and Navi was one of the few options

why are they so rare?...because it's a lot cheaper to get a map.

oh, and you don't HAVE to use premium fuel...I only use premium every other tank, and use regualr or mid-grade the other times.

I recently had someone offer me 21K for my 2K2. I should have taken it.

Irish, on the 2002/3's you do have to use premium fuel, it may be different for the 2000's which your profile says you push. I think it was 91 octane or better. This helps prevent the engine from pinging. So it could be premium, depending on where you are located. I use premium in mine, and it was 93 octane, less Sunoco Ultra 94.

they are rare because it is CD based, a 2000$ option, that was available on later 5th gen models (02-03) and you had to get OTHER options before you can stick in the navi, boosting your price by a cool 5 grand or so.

Yeah I know lower octane causes the ping, which is why I do super every other tank and put mid- or regular about half a tank down...get a mix (about 90-92 octane) and I haven't heard a ping in a while.

The 2k also says premium only, but with gas prices the way they are and I am doing mostly highway driving, I can't feel or hear a difference.

Believe me, you CAN use mid-grade or regular in the 2k2-3 also, it will not hurt the engine - it will just give you slightly lower detonation and performance. There are a million arguments on this...so it's all about your personal peace of mind. I can't tell any difference, so I will use regular or mid every once in a while.

By the way, what do you mean by "your profile says that you push", out of curiosity...?

Don't pretty much all cars these days say "use super unleaded only" ?

Nav was virtually the only option on the previous generation TL's, which makes them an easier find. Don't let the rarity of a Max with Nav turn you off. A little web surfing and some patience should do the trick.

I specifically looked for a 2k2 WITH Navi, when I bought my Max. Yes it boosts the price quite a bit, because you have to get Leather, Bose, Sunroof, etc, in order to have it. I believe the only option you dont have to get to have Navi, is Meridian. As far as " getting a map ", to each his own. If you travel a lot , outside your area, you can make considerable use of it. I have all the regions on CD, so thats not an issue to me. I have found it to be well worth it, along with touch screen CD player, touch screen climate controls, that the Navi provides.
As with the choice between Premium - regular unleaded......its all up to you.

For us it was the CD changer moving to the trunk that killed the Navigation option on our 2002 SE. It has every option but that. That is a huge inconvenience. It is not worth $2000 but if you're spending $26,000 or so (sticker was a tick over $30,000 but we get the suppliers discount) it's not that much more.

We also did not get the six speed because of the fear of depreciation. After the depreciation on the automatic I don't believe a six speed would have been any worse. I have never experienced this level of depreciation on any new vehicle ever. To the guy that was offered $21k for his car and was wondering if he should have taken it, NADA says average trade-in is around $16,000 and retail is around $19,000 depending on location and mileage. If anyone offers me close to $20,0000 they will own a very nice Sunlit Sand, 2002 SE with all options but Navigation, 26,000 miles and new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S that cost nearly $900 installed, but were worth every penny.

After we had all of the problems with the Bose head unit (the fourth replacement unit finally worked) I was wondering if the Navigation option would have saved us from that pain.

you gotta pay to play....if you want convenience of in dash navi without risking break-ins for aftermarket navi, you get what you pay for....sure aftermarket navi is cheaper, prolly higher res and all around better but its not stock looking and it can be stolen in a few minutes...

no one will steal factory navi

The brain of the Navi is located in engine compartment..so if you really wanted to , all you could steal is the screen, which would be useless to you. I have not heard of anyone having problems with the headunit, that comes with the Navi setup.

Thanks for the info guys

I appreciate it alot. I plan on getting into real estate and navi is a must.
I don't mind about all the other options that have to go along with nav., cause I want most of them anyways. I guess my decision is to get max!!
I guess it will boil down too price. If I can find a loaded non nav thats
13k, I will go with aftermarket nav. and alarm . Otherwise 16k with nav.

Please use ONLY Premium in your Max.

That said, if you keep searching, you can find the Navi. My guess is it will be more rare in SE models, and a little more common in GLE models. The other option is pick your own aftermarket navi...
