Those with Navigation....

I know I have asked this before, but I will again. Has anyone with Navigation switched out your stock radio ? If so, did you retain all the functions of the Navigation setup with the new deck, single cd player from screen, navi sounds..etc ?.....I need to upgrade my deck, and Im just asking....

there has to be a way that if u get an aftermarket TV u can splice the video input which will go into the stock screen into a video cable and get it to plug into the video input on the new deck

is that what you mean?

When I take the Navigation CD ROM out, and pop in an audio CD , it becomes a touch screen CD player, but it plays through an AUX source on the stock radio. I just wonder , if I upgrade to an aftermarket radio, if this function will still work. I dont want to buy a new radio, and pop in a CD into the Navigation, and not be able to hear it on the Max's sound system......got it ?....

Im not trying to add an extra screen.

Hey Kloogy- (aside from our differences)

looking at that pic (first time I've seen the navi up close) shows me that the HU is in fact separate from the screen-so I am assuming that the CD slot is behind the screen??

if thats the case than:

1) you'd have two CD slots (not a problem)

2) if you remove the HU by itself, do you see a connector attached to the screen???-this would assume to me that it is an aux port and should work with a new HU as long as it has one also

I have not pulled it out yet. I just looked on crutchfield and it says that NO aftermarket radios are compatible with this car....wtf ? I might have to yank it out, and take a closer look. The only reason I want to swap my radio, is to have XM or Sirius built in, and also send a clearer signal to my amps......Thx for the help so far, even you NT....

If it is in fact a touch screen CD player why is it that the NAV is not touch screen?

Don't quote me but the way I see it is the CD player you have reads it as a dvd. So I think you best bet it to get this aftermarket headunit. From looking at your pics your headunit says AUX so you need a Aux output to hook the screen to.

I think there is more wiring logic built into the stock head unit than it appears. When the Nav voice comes on, it cuts out two channels so that you can hear directions.

Thats correct, BTW , you've got a PM..

Im just afraid of upgrading the headunit, and start finding out that little things in the Navigation software arent functioning the way they should. I was hoping someone had already been the guinea pig....

You can always try and call some shops and ask if they have done a maxima with stock Navi. I can't tell unless it was right in front of me. but I think you would have to leave it. Cause the heater controls are built into the navi and cd player correct. But if you can fit the player I posted above in the place where the tape is you should be able to use the AUX the screen.
