2K2---Stalled!

I missed turning into a driveway on a busy street so I shifted into reverse, backed up really quick, but didn't come to a full stop when I put her back into drive. I know.. . But anyway, as soon as I put it into drive the car just stalled, and every dash light came on. I quickly put it into neutral, cranked, but it would catch. I then put it into park, turned the key to the off position, tried again and it turned over. No check engine lights or anything. What happened?

I recieved a recall notice in the mail last week about a possible failing crank position sensor. Has your "Service Engine Soon" light come on lately?

as far as why it did not turn on, i believe that it went into a safe mode for a bit because of what you did. i know on my friends old audi, we slipped it into reverse while it was in drive and the car shut off. it wouldnt not turn on. he stopped it. put it in park, sat there for a few seconds, then started up again. i think it's more like a limp mode. one of those freak things the car didnt' expect so it wants the driver to "reset" the start up process ie stop, turn off, turn on again. etc....

That kinda makes sense, because it bucked for a second when I through it into gear. As far as starting in neutral, I am pretty sure you can, because the starter was cranking. NO SES lights on ever.

Yeah this happened to me before driving down a mountain. I shifted into reverse by mistake and the car cut off, coasted down hill a little. All lights were on. I looked up saw I was in reverse said "****" shifted to park, turned car off and cranked it again
