Loud whiny gear whine... any way to get rid of it?

As the title asks, is there any way to get rid of gear whine on an automatic? If I didn't have an intake and a muffler, I would have to have my music very loud all the time to drown out the ultra annoying gear whine. So, any help?

Sure it's gear whine?

I'd bet it's non-dampened engine noise from the removal of your OEM airbox/resonator. Even with the OEM airbox, I still hear it, just not near as loud.

Hmm... it was there before the intake was put on, but seemingly on a lesser noise level. Lately, I think it's gotten louder.. hm...

Hey Ice, as long as you're hear and I know you have good knowledge, I have another noise question. At ~2k rpm I hear a light grinding noise from my engine bay. It does not happen before or after the 2k rpm range, and it is a light noise. Any ideas?

P.S. the noise happens much more often when the car is on a slightly inclined plane, and pretty much never when it is going downhill..

Hey Ilya,

My car makes all kinds of noises. First I was very cautious and afraid something might fall off but then with all those noise TSBs I just said to myself "Argh screw it". I suspect my car has all kinds of problems, hood rattling, dashboard rattling, bose sub rattling, glove box rattling... No time to fix it

Pretty sure that's it. Try popping the hood, sticking your head under there, and having someone slowly rev up the RPM and let off. You should clearly hear it, especially near the airfilter.

It wasn't covered under the powertrain/tranny 60,000 mile warranty? Also, are you an auto?
