Do you hear rattling nose from inside the car when you are driving?

no... your shifter is probably hitting your heat shield. if so bend the head shield a little. its a soft metal panel so you can do it yourself with no problem

Also, make sure it's not touching the FRONT of the console in 1st/3rd/5th gear.

Mine had a vibration noise when the STS slipped allowing it to touch. Definitely NOT a metallic sound like the heatshield though...more of a buzzzzzzzzz.

How did you take care of your problem?

Pulled it, raised it back up, drilled a dimple for the set screw, and locktite'd it.

However, I'm pretty sure that didn't work, because it seems awfully close once again and sometimes hard to shift.

I bought a Stillen STS, because I'm not messing with it again.

Mine was close to hitting the console when in first, third or fifth gear. I knew someone with a pipe bender and we just bent the shifter a little. Now its perfect.
