I saved a lot from the 30k maintanence

Yesterday, I was grinning and a little heavier on my wallet on doing my own maintanence on the schedule 30k miles. Instead of spending 375 bucks at Nissan for something that we all can do it ourselves. On the maintenance it's all inspect this and that, but mostly just oil change, air filter, micro in-cabin filter, rotate the tires. All it came down to less than 60 bucks.
Took the used oil to AutoZone for disposal free of charge.

Most places charge about $100 for a tranny flush but also guarantee it for 30K miles.

You dont really have to flush the coolant yet you can wait till 60. Ive had cars with 120k+ with no flushes, but I wouldnt recomend that.

I think you should also drain the coolant and refill once a year and drain and refill the transmission fluid every 10k miles.

10k seems a bit excessive. I do mine every 15k to 20k (depending on weather and temperment).

No way you should change it every 10K. Go by the owners manual, plain and simple. If something breaks, then you have no problems considering you were going by their schedules...

I'm not saying flush the transmission every 10k, just drain and refill.

I do not own an automatic... but if/when I do I will not touch the transmission fluid. I've seen too many issues relating to automatics after the fluid has been changed.

That is a foolish comment. Automatic transmissions fail when the fluid is not changed regularly. I have heard of what you are describing, but the problems usually occur because the transmission was neglected for 100k+ miles and then the fluid was changed. By that point, the parts had worn so much that adding new fluid and removing a lot of the build up of gunk inside the tranny resulted in problems. Change your auto tranny fluid every 15-20k and you won't have to rebuild it at 100k.

My 80 year old neighbor says the same thing. I can understand him saying that because he's old school. That is a misconception that some people have. We have several pickup trucks and vans with automatics in our fleet where I work. We change the fluid per manufacturer specs and do not or have not encountered any problems from doing so. A couple of the 89 Chevy trucks with over 300k miles on them still have the original tranny. Don't be afraid to change your fluid if/when you decide to go auto.

That's the thing about the automatic fluid. My owner manual says not until 60k on it. The dealer recommend maintenance is at 30k all it said drain and filled. I hope that doesn't mean that used the same fluid they drained it.

I got my tranny and radiator fllushed at City Garage for $147.00 at 28,000 miles. I believe it's supposed to be done at 30k miles.

Oh and I believe my tranny is acting funny when I really get on it and the shift from first to second kind of delayed then kicked in sort of and I could feel it. Weird,,,
