Guys, I was looking on E-bay and you can get a front strut bar for a Maxima for like 10 bucks. What's the benefit of having one installed? It just seems too cheap to make a performance impact.

If anyone has one installed, what's your opinion on this $10 investment?

 

For improving handling in the 5th Gen Maxima, a FSTB is said to be the best addition to your car you can make.

watch out for imitations... they only do good if they are ligit... the fake outs tend to crack and bend..

front strut bar improves your cornering just a little bit.. but RSB is a night and day improvement

 

The effect of the strut brace is subtle and depends on the age of the car. Since the strut towers are unbraced across the top they can move some relative to each other. This will increase with age. The strut brace ties them together, giving a stiffer structure. Tying them to the firewall too would be even better but nobody makes one like that. In general, turn-in is a little sharper and the chassis motions from the front and rear twisting relative to each other (sort of a corkscrew motion when you hit a bump in a corner) are reduced.

 

It only makes a very subtle difference in handling. Some notice no difference at all.

An RSB gives you immediate night and day difference in handling, keeping your car upright in the turns.

 

I just installed a fsb yesterday. Otto Racing parts. Good quality fsb. Dont expect huge gains with this mod. It helps, but you arent going to take corners like a Ferrari.

 

Yeah, I got the otto bar myself. Good quality. I got it off ebay for about $45 shipped.
I notice the difference on turn ins.

 

i bought the cheap ebay FSTB about 6 months ago and i believe that it works just as good as any other one on the market...you can't go wrong for like 12 dollars...

 

I had 3 problems with the cheap ones on ebay:
1. They look cheap. I prefered the nicer looking product for my max.
2. They looked less rigid. If this is the case, it will be less effective.
3. I figured the higher quality part would have a better fit to my max.

everyone has to start sometime though. I not necessarily a noob even though i don't post threads. But I can't live w/out this site. It had changed how I modify my car. Thanks to all the smart people in this forum!!
