Headers, y pipe and stock exhaust?

would the stock exhaust restrict the potential with this setup? looking this route since there is more power available than getting the catback and y pipe. I don't want to go catback just yet, I just want to get the most out of my money at first.

to my knowledge, there are no shorty headers for 00/01 so the headers out there would include the y pipe. no one that i know of has dynoed these headers against having an aftermarket y pipe so there is no telling what they would gain over just having the y pipe. you could either wait for that to happen or just go with the best bang of the buck in the y pipe.

yep, the cattman headers for the 3.0 include the y-pipe in it. So technically you can't go headers, y-pipe, stock exhaust

and up to now, there isn't a comparison for aftermarket headers to y pipe? decisions, decisions...

there is only one, but the member was supercharged so it doesn't offer much as a comparison

i like to think of it like this:
a header is roughly almost twice the price of a y-pipe. If a y-pipe gave 10-15 whp then a header *should* give me at least 20-30 whp. But I seriously doubt that headers on the 3.0 will give that much of a gain

So would a stock exhaust restrict a header or y-pipe installation? I know the gains are minimal with an exhaust upgrade with a stock exhaust manifold, but I'd imagine with headers (or a y-pipe) an aftermarket exhaust would start to show more gains...

5 spd - the B-pipe is restrictive in the exhaust after the cat. If you went with headers or Y-pipe then you should also look at getting a B-pipe. IMO

Dr V - I got your point. the reason I want to do headers or y pipe is because it seems there is more of an hp increase than with just the cat back system alone. for now, its one or the other, and I am leaning towards headers or y pipe since there is more of an hp gain.

how many and where are the O2 sensors located at? I haven't had the chance to look underneath. What is involved in a header install? Can the home mechanic do it without headache? anyone have a write up for this install?
