Newbie needs help with LSD info

Hi everyone. I just purchased a 02 Majestic Blue 6sp with everything but what it really needs. A LSD!!! Does anyone know if the stock LSD can be swapped in place of the stock open diff without swapping the entire transmition case? If so, has anyone done this? The only option I've found so far is from Stillen. I believe they take the stock open case and convert it to a LSD. I've never heard of this before, so I'm a little skeptical.
I called Quaife America and although they doen't have apart number for our 02-04 cars, they would be willing to make a run of Quaife's just for us, IF we can get roughly 30 people who want one. Now I know that may be asking for alot, but if anyone is interested let's here from you. Even if there aren't 30 we might still be able to persuade them to buid a run and add the part number to their inventory. I have no info on pricing, but I would be willing to bet it would be in the ball park for the 95-01 version.
I just wanted to give Brian Catts from Cattman Performance some props! He responded very quickly to several emails I sent to him regarding the LSD issue and general performance questions. Although he didn't sell me something right then and there, he took the time to give me some great options and advice!! Brian you'll be getting my first performance parts order! Thanks!

Welcome to the Maxima Community. Glad you could join us!

Well if memory serves me well, someone tried to do this, but found out you would have to change the transmission out because it was a different casing/housing. About the Quaife LSD. go to the group forums there and mention this and see who all will bite.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I hope I can talk with someone who has tried this or at least looked into it.... Does anyone know of a Nissan mechanic who post on here and what his or her name may be?.... I'm still in amazement Nissan made the LSD an option on the 6sp. It should have been part of the package when purchasing a 6sp. Real dumb move by Nissan. IMHO.... Thanks again for the welcome guys!!

Good luck on that one. I dont think you are going to get 30 people to cough up about $1500 for the quaife. And, as for them making some without enough people, thats not going to happen. Us older SE-R guys have been begging them to make a run, but they wont do it even though they ALREADY made it already!

You could also check with fellow orger POLO, he was doing some research on it.

ANd, yes the 6spd needs the HSLD. I love mine!
