rust update

Well I finally had a meeting with the Nissan rep about the rust on my '00 max. I had rust on the rear window cross pieces on both sides and on the lower part of the trunk deck (right where the bumper meets trunk). The rep didn't say much only he'll get back to me about. 2 weeks later they denied my rust claim because the rust is not perforated. The 5 year/unlimited miles rust warranty expires thei August (5 years). I'm kinda ticked at this because my bumper has a big rust stain on it now.

I've also got a good deal of rust where the bumper meets the trunk, rather unsightly - sorry to hear about your denied claim.

I was going to take my car in for the same exact thing this Fri. My warranty expires in July. I heard that there is a TSB for this problem.

The rubber part around my trunk is completely falling off, I'm wondering if this contributed to the rust, as water routinely gets stuck in there after it rains or I hose the car off. Pain in the butt....

When the auto shop guy looked at the rear bumper, he stated that the rear bumper is out of alignment. To my knowledge, I've never backed into anything or jumped off the bumper. I've rested cases of beer on it before but that shouldn't shift the bumper enough to make it rub.

Here's why your trunk lid is rusting. Its rubbing against the rear bumper when you close it. Here's the link to the TSb's. Look at post #16, TSB 00-055

Take a look at your car's rear end from the sides around the sidemarker area - I'm curious to see if you've noticed the same thing i've noticed on my car; the bumper appears to be "misaligned" or sorta pushed in on some areas more than others... it's not lined up perfectly flush with the rear quarter portion of the body. It makes me wonder how much good this can be...

I too had the rust on the rear bumper/trunk lid. The dealer fixed it per the tsb, and no problems since.

What dealership in MA did you take it too? I too have rust where the trunk meets the bumper.

Thanks,

Ben

I have a good one for you guys - driver's door frame on the a-pillar and farther up along the top of the door frame as well. This started from within and is nice and close to teh roofline... I'm worried There's also two areas that have been rusted through (a few mm in width - little cracks).... to say the least I am NOT happy to be losing my Maxima to rust, especially after how I maintain it, and especially after all the work I've done on the car ... I barely noticed it.. had to lift the rubber stripping to find it and couldn't believe it once I saw it

Those that had the area repainted...how many miles did you have on the car when you had it done? I'm out of my factory warranty w/ a little rust that i'd like to get taken care of.
