Spring install question - Sleeve on spring?

Hey guys, I'm just about to install my Illumina/Progress combo, but I wanted to clear up a questions about the sleeve that comes with the spring. I understand it keeps the coils from hitting against each other and should sit on the bottom of the spring and keep the spring from resting directly against the perch, but the sleeve I have only covers around the first coil. Is this normal?

Also, the sleeve is split into a couple separate pieces. Is this normal as well?

Yes and yes....the OEM sleeve is like that as well..slit longitudinally to make it easier to fit over the spring itself. My Eibachs came with a solid, one-piece -and just slightly thicker-walled piece....

On my Tein S. Techs, the sleeves aren't even really on the outermost coils. On the OEM springs, they were on the ends of the outermost coils. Maxspeeds didn't come with any so I used my stock sleeves with those, and it worked fine.
