Performance air filter

I have a 03 GLE 3.5 V6 and I want to boost performance by adding a new air filter. K&N has a factory replacement(33-2031-2) that is square. I would like to buy a K&N universal round tapered filter that can be added instead, since I have seen it done on many sites such as this. Does anyone know what the mounting flange inside diameter or the angle that I need to accomplish this with a K&N universal round tapered filter?

Thanks in advance,

Chilly

You'd probably want to buy a whole intake, or at least a MAF sensor adapter for it... (and remove the stock airbox/resonators)

I think what your asking for is a MAF adapter or a JWT/Stillen Pop Charger. You can find a MAf adapter at Pep boy/Autozone I seen them there but I am not too sure about fitment.

The MAF adaptors that they sell at the autoparts stores do not fit our cars. The K&N pannel filter will not give you a significant performance gain but will lower your maintainence costs because you can just wash and reoil it. (some say that it dyno's for a 1hp gain).

So for like $36 I can get a 8 inch K&N filter w/out a midpipe? I saw the pics, so I just run it off the side and it gets enough airflow? I was leaning to replacing the factory filter with the K&N filter so I can you the factory air intake system, but after looking at the pics with and w/out the midpipe, the filter would breath enough to give you better perfromance? Just trying to clarify if I want to buy the cone or not. If te cone works, again, I drop $36, buy my refresh oil, and clamp on the 8 inch cone filter and increase overall performance? If true, that sounds like a heck of a deal!

You will need a few more parts that just the filter. You need the following:

Filter
MAF adaptor
Bracket
mounting hardware

for $50 including shipping i bought a cone style on Ebay (cosmoracing.com?). have not installed it yet but it looks pretty good for the bucks, better than paying $45 for a K&N panel filter IMO.

Truthfully, I noticed a significant increase in low end torque when I added the midpipe.

Please forgive my stupidity, but what is the MAF? $70 doesn's souns too bad, so where would you suggest picking up one of these kits and which one is the one I need? I'm still trying to figure out the diameter that I ned to fit the cone. And besides the maintenance costs, how much performance will I gain with the kit? A lot of you guys are from the West Coast, since I see lots of snow, do you think the cold, snowy conditions might affect the modificatin to the OEM layout?
