HID Questions

Been reading about some HID questions and I am totally confused what kind of replacement I can put in for my max.

It is a 2002 GLE with Xenon HID. Can I install this instead?

http://www.autoaccessorystore.com/ho...hmen&options=1

Thanks in advance.

im going to be putting in a hekios 6 or 7k kit from that site. i have a 2k i30. if you have the cash i would recommend projectors from the bmw. i just dont want to pay the money. but if you are looking for brightness like me. get none hid houseings that will use the halogen reflector and project brighter light. but it will blind other drivers(not that i care)

Will a nice ticket change your opinion on blinding oncoming drivers? What if they crash into you while blinded?

If you're not killed or maimed in the crash. You will certainly have a talk with the cop or judge when you get that ticket for illegal headlights.

Ok so you have a 2k2 with factory HID...that means you dont need to buy a ballast or any other parts other than the capsule/bulb itself. The bulb size/type you need is D2R. Thats standard on all factory HID setups that use reflectors. What is your goal by upgrading the color temp of your HIDs? I've had 3 different color temps and brands of HID capsules in the short 8 montsh I've owned my car. The higher you go "K" wise the less light you put on the road. By the time your at 12k its like purple halogen if not worse. What color do you want? Also...please remember that the bulbs you buy will not be as bright as factory. Check out HIDforum.com for a lot more info. A few other members and myself post on their web board.

whats the verdict : HIDS for 2ks

What will the output be like adding h4 HIDs to a 2000 Maxima. The housing obviously wasnt made for HIDS. so what will the output/beam look like. I know it will look pretty, but will be useful?

don't get that 12k rating bulb. Defeats the purpose of having HIDs; unless you are all about looks.

you should listen to hamy, as its pointless, unless you want looks, to get a higher "k". Get an HID conversion kit for your fogs and your good to go.
I get a good price on Helios HID's directly from autoaccessorystore.com, so PM or email me for prices.

Hamy, Thanks for the useful comments. I was trying to go for a higher lumen beam but to light up the road and not peoples faces. Color is not important to me. I like the color on the factory HIDs. Its probably 5K or 6K i think.

I like BrandonSE's comments to upgrade fog lamps from halogen to HID. Brandon, which ones do you recommend?

If you want to put more lumens then your going to have to upgrade your ballast not the bulb. The stock bulbs are the brightest you can buy...5k 6k they just change the color not the output. If you bump up to a 50watt ballast you will put alot more light on the road. But this will lower the life span of your stock bulbs. Its not as easy as you think to put more light on the road. Your best and cheapest way is to add HID fogs. This will not help you on the fog (bright white light is the worst for fog) but it will give you more light on the road under normal conditions. Prices will be from $250-$700. You get what you pay for as for...and to match your stock HIDs you want something between 4500-5000k. Best of luck!
