well I guess I saw it coming....tranny was slipping and this morning the car wouldn't really pickup much and as I was pulling into a spot at work, tranny just died-put it in reverse to pull back and no go-just revs, don't think it will go forward either-didn't try though because there was a car parked in front of me.

time to call the tow truck and send it to the dealer...this sux!

btw not sure if it's the MAF, but I doubt it-i went back to stock intake about 300 miles ago to prepare for this day

its the grill just kiddin
doubt its the MAF. sounds like the clutch to me. like it isnt grabbing right. try and adjust it first. if it is adjusted as much as it can go, you will need to replace the plate that grabs (whatever the fancy name for it is, its to early and i cant remember)

I had the same problem with my 2k2 auto max, no reverse at all!!!
look what i did "left leg on the brake pedal, right leg on the gas pedal and push it until hit 2k-3k rpm" and you will have reverse but will do it again... just take it to the dealer! i took my 2k2 to the dealer but they didnt do sh*t... so i got a 2k3 auto max again and im happy with it... I have almost 30k miles on it and no problem... on my 2k2 max i had 20k miles and a lot of problems with my tranny.

I heard when you fu*k the tranny just forget it... i know guys that has change the tranny 3 times! if anything happen to my car... i will get a 6 speed max!
but as soon as can i will put VB and tranny cooler to be stronger...

Greekmax-yeah dude--umm I'm not 100% sure what you said but I will be getting VB mod once this tranny issue gets straightened out.

thats what a warranty is for, right?

I have a 2k3 and only have 11k on it....just don't understand how a tranny with 11k can be broke..it's not like I did anything to it. The car is bone stock

Damn man, Sorry to hear your trouble... But isnt the dealer supposed to send a tow truck if something happens to your car? Also, how do you have your tints so dark? Im also in NY, isnt that illegal?

OK. Why does it seem like Nissan's AT are $hit? My AT exhibited the same symptoms, and Nissan had to replace the trans. Your trans solenoids have become defective, and most likely your reverse gear is out of commission. If your car had no getup, its not the MAF, it because the trans intentionally would start out in 3rd gear. The inside of your tranny probably resembles salad right now.

I hope that the other gears are damaged enough to warrant a replacement, and not just a rebuild.

VQ35 = Gold
4AT = $hit.

I know Kloog had his Auto trans replaced too, so between you, me, Kloog, Matt (Blu), Gooey, Im sure there are others who have had their auto trans replaced. Not a good sign.

Oh, and be prepared to wait about 3-4 days on delivery for the oem 4AT. Labor time to install is 6hrs book time. They owe you a loaner too, dont forget to hassle them about that if you have to.

Just came back from Star to check on the situation.

NEW tranny ordered and is slated to be in Mon or Tues...

Star Nissan service rocks....Hogan you and Fred are the fukin advisors!

As I did with the dude who helped me into my maxima at NNA I will do with you guys the same-

when the feedback sheet comes in the mail-I will include a typewritten letter stating how you guys went out of your way to help me in time of need

For whatever it's worth-the dude at NNA Corp got a promotion as a result of my letter in his file

thanx guys

i had mine replaced about 6 months ago!!
if i started in first then shifted into drive the tranny would stay in 1st!! had to stop, put in park, turn car off, and start over!!
took about a week for new tranny to arrive and about 3 days to put it in.
at least i talked (b!tched) my way into getting my neon rental car.

Ferbs...loaner has been in my hands since 10min after leaving car at dealer- the extended warranty INCLUDES loaner service at no charge for whatever duration Nissan needs your vehicle

hey, when in need, a Nissan Sentra is a good thing

happy they are taking care of this problem for you.

Fernando.

p.s. funny story, when I picked up my Max after trans replacement, the service writer tells me to take it easy for the next 500 miles, no hard driving, abrupt downshifts, etc. I tell the guy, I don't race my Max, its a grocery getter, well we all had a good laugh about that one

I wonder if are transmissions shifted faster, then maybe they woudn't be prone to clunk out? Or do I not know what i'm talking about?

but this isn't good, i don't want my tanny to go out! i love my car.

When was your car built?
What part of 2002 was it built. If it's early I can see why i crapped out. the 2k2 (to me) seems like an alpha version of the 5.5 gen(too many things go wrong.)

Mine is still strong with an intake after 16,400 miles.

Here's my advice. If you have never done general maintenance on the trans, as far as doing the atf flush, and the trans feels like it searching for the right gear a lot, or it delays the 1-2 shift, or it slams into any gear in particular, your trans is on its way out, and dont spend any $$ on it. I dropped a c-note getting the trans flushed, and a week later the trans died on me, what a waste! Anyway, Nissan auto trans' suck a$$, we just have to deal with it. Anybody thinking about fi or juice on a stock Nissan auto trans, forget it, you're just asking to be left stranded somewhere...

The reason I bought the Maxima was because I heard nissan tranny was very good esp CVT. not like the hondas. I feel that my tranny slams in third gear, but I belive that is just quick or strong shift.

I won't make the same mistake twice....this brand new tranny is comin out of the dealer and goin straight to Maximum Tuning for the vb mod to strenghten it a bit along with a tranny cooler and at the same time might as well have the y pipe installed.

I'm gonna bulletproof this car if it kills me or my wallet, whichever dies first

Fernando-you hit the nail on the head here for me--the tranny started by "missing first" when I was at a light-light turns green I hit gas pedal, car just surged and then BAM, slammed into gear....I knew it was slipping but I figured I would wait until it did it often so the dealer wouldnt screw me on the repair...

well that was 2 weeks prior to her totally just dying....

Fernando is right guys-if you feel ANY ANY slippage-bring it in-don't let your baby leave you on the side of the highway

I had my tranny replaced by Nissan 2X under warranty. Solenoids +TCM, then boom (1) 11K mi more, boom(2)
Now L10 tranny sits under my hood, no problems.
Its true, Nissan ATs do blow. No comment on CVTs. I blame AAA and unknowledgeable customers who pour Dexron ATF into a CVT.

What kind of clutch issues?

Lately in my car when I release the clutch pedal under normal driving it makes like a creaking noise, it sounds like a bicycle brake cable that is about to break.

Thats the problem I have. You need to lube either the spring or the clutch bearing.
