Anyone Who Has Changed A Fuel Filter Help!!!
Anyone Who Has Changed A Fuel Filter Help!!!
My car is sitting in my driveway right now, basically i posted a thread about this a week ago to see what kind of problems i might have, from the responses i got it didnt seem to hard, so i went to go take out the back seat then proceeded to take out the 3 screws holding the plate that says 2y then i unscrewed about 3 screws holding, im guessing the fuel pump, i heard pressure being released, thought that was probably usual, then i went and did the rest. I noticed i couldnt get the pump out without taking off the 3 connectors, so i did the harness one that goes from the plate that says 2y and then i tried one of the other connectors and i think gas came out so i quickly wiped it down and put that connector back on and tried to put everything back together but now the O ring wont fit, and i dont know what to do, I know i would have to replace the O ring, but what do i do? Is it normal to have fuel come out? Pressure released? Help please
thanks

It is totally normal for the pressure to be released and for some fuel to spill out of the fuel pump assembly. The stock O-ring won't work as well as it should since it is somewhat old and has expanded.
make sure u get a new O ring. fuel sprayed out like hell when i did mine. make sure that u dont strip the 8 screws that holds the fuel pump assembly down. the fuel filter is rather easy to replace after the assembly is pulled out. also i believe it says in the ESM that the pressure regulator O ringt needs to be replaced along with the pressure regulator clip. i only replaced my O ring on the eye hole. i dremeled my old fuel fiter apart and DAMN that thing was DIRTY. have fun and be very careful.

someone did a write up for this not long ago with pics and words. I don't know where it is, look in how tos and the 5th gen threads. I however saved a copy of the whole thread and edited the appearance so when I do this I will have instructions. Thanks to who ever did it. I don't remember who though. If you PM me I will email you the Word Doc that I saved it as.
Not sure if you saw this how-to: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=276627
Thanks alot guys, i ended up just taking the new O ring i had and putting it on , i got the fuel pump out, looked at it and just said forget it, i didnt want to mess up anything. Thanks for the link housecor, i found that, after i put it back together. I regret ever even trying this. I still have the new filter, but unless i do this with someone who has experience, forget about it. Thanks alot though guys

Note to users who do this:
After you pull the fuse and run the car empty, remove the gas cap to release extra pressure. Doing so will make the removal process a little cleaner.
Also, keep a towel around to soak up the gas that is inside the filter/pump assembly so that you don't spill it on the carpet, etc of the backseat.
