02 Maxima with 6 speed Tranny

So I am looking at a 2002 SE maxima with the 6 speed. The Tranny feels a bit odd going into third gear. My buddies tell me its notchy and that there may be long term issues with its reliability. Will Nissan recall this transmission? Whats the deal with the powertrain warranty?? Anyone think I should avoid this tranny or just beat the crap out of it till they replace it???? 29K miles and its got somethin wrong with third....

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Just take it to your dealer and complain about a 3rd gear grind. Dealers will replace your tranny if you're persistant. So far, Nissan won't recall the tranny.............yet.

Have you had issues with your Z's 6-speed?

Some people say Redline (or equivalent) cures most of the notchiness.

Mine is slightly notchy. Precise shifting essentially eliminates the notchiness. 33K miles on mine.

What he said....being precise is a big plus. And I have MT-90 tranny fluid. That helps, too.
